Discovering that the system responsible for raising my stats might actually be "aware" left me speechless. Literally, since I was temporarily hit with a "Stroke Ailment" to shut me up.
However, that just raised more questions and concerns, especially now that it was the clear this mysterious force wielded significantly more power over my life than I ever imagined.
And worse, things were only going to get more complicated.
New party members, more dangerous fights, and foreboding evolutions all threatened to upset the one goal I’d had since the very beginning - survive.

Prologue
Savannah took a deep breath and let it out slowly, turning her head again to focus on the brilliant icy blue leaves blowing gently in the breeze.
“I hate this,” she commented, only to abruptly look up at me in alarm, as if she was afraid of being misunderstood. “I’m thankful that you saved me,” she clarified. “But I just hate this system thing, and the fact that it’s putting us in danger.”
“I know,” I replied simply. “I don’t like it much either. But we have to get stronger. You have to get stronger. Otherwise we might not be so lucky next time.” My tone became somber as I lowered my voice to a whisper. “It was a really close one. Too close.”
Savannah shivered at the too recent memory, pushing more into me, and thus, shoving my folded wings more against the frame, as she turned to look at the Foxfire Trees endlessly burning in the darkness in a heatless blaze.

Perhaps these things will be explained but with only 2 hours left to go on this book I am stuck with the feeling that our characters have no control over their own lives. This may be perpuousful but it makes for an unfulfilling story. And that is the feeling I've had since the first System Quest our MC receives in this book.
Considering how amazing the first book is I was very puzzled by the odd directions this book has taken.
OK.... That Was Not What I Expected

I am an avid fan of The life of an immortal series. I have listened to the entire series multiple times. Seeing he produced another series that interested me I followed up on it. I saw the first book of this as mediocre but i followed up on the sequel.
This book felt like the author got sick of the series and decided to rush it. The plotline is confusing and almost pointless, he rushes from plot point to plot point without much explanation behind them, thinking he's being mysterious when in actuality he's just making it confusing. He has 2 different time skips and a seperate "romance" subplot where he states there can't be romance while still debating it constantly.
Finally the male voice actor. He doesn't understand what overacting means. He's constantly talking too fast, growling and huffing the MC's internal monologue.
That's it.
