Acerca de esta escucha

National best-selling author of Apocalypse Never skewers progressives for the mishandling of America’s faltering cities.

Progressives claimed they knew how to solve homelessness, inequality, and crime. But in cities they control, progressives made those problems worse.

Michael Shellenberger has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for 30 years. During that time, he advocated for the decriminalization of drugs, affordable housing, and alternatives to jail and prison. But as homeless encampments spread, and overdose deaths skyrocketed, Shellenberger decided to take a closer look at the problem.

What he discovered shocked him. The problems had grown worse not despite but because of progressive policies. San Francisco and other West Coast cities - Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland - had gone beyond merely tolerating homelessness, drug dealing, and crime to actively enabling them.

San Fransicko reveals that the underlying problem isn’t a lack of housing or money for social programs. The real problem is an ideology that designates some people, by identity or experience, as victims entitled to destructive behaviors. The result is an undermining of the values that make cities, and civilization itself, possible.

Thought provoking an important insights into a major problem facing an increasing number of cities across America. Having grown up in Portland Oregon, a city that I love, this hits home.

So Important

This book had a lot of really good information in it. Michael does a great job of sticking to facts and not letting his political ideology cloud that. You can really follow his progression of thinking on this subject.

Very Informative

Presents the facts, which kinda make the case on their own. Everything culminates with the chapter of leadership. Puts words how a lot of us who don't live on the west coast view those states and cities.

Makes a logical case

A very comprehensive diagnosis of the vagrancy issue which plagues the west coast. Notice I say vagrancy instead of homelessness- give this book a lesson and you will learn why the distinction is important. Narrator is excellent.

Extremely conprehensive

An excellent series of fact based arguments leading to a tragic conclusion. I highly recommend this clear headed analysis of what has, and has not worked. My favorite point was the idea that the issue of homelessness needs a more precise set of nuanced describing words.

Learned a lot. I was unaware of these practices in San Francisco. The city and many well intentioned individuals & groups are sacrificing the sick for the homeless industry. I wonder do they ever ask themselves, “Could I be wrong. “ Recommend this book to anyone working with addicted individuals, anyone who cares about addictions and would like to learn how NOT to “help”.
