In the town of Gainesville, Cooper Fox has a special place in people’s hearts. Since the car accident that wiped his memories, Cooper has been...a little foggy. Cooper doesn’t know how to do much, but one thing he instinctively seems to know about is strength training, and with his help, Gainesville High’s football team has just won the Mid-States final. With Cooper the hero of the hour, the whole town is getting ready to celebrate in style.

When three strangers crash the party and decide to pick on the harmless-looking guy carrying a cooler full of sodas, they trigger something inside Cooper. Afterwards, the folks in Gainesville can never look at him in quite the same way. Is he really just a regular guy who suffered a brain injury in a car crash, or is he someone else? Or something else?

As Cooper tries to come to terms with baffling new memories, he’s about to be plunged into a terrifying world of secret experiments and covert assassins that will test his new-found abilities to the limit.

This one hit me in so many places it hurts. The theme of the story, if you aren't a super human, empathy is a burden. People hate you for it.

Great listen except for the overplay of the cognitive degradation aspect. The performance during this period is not automatically receptive.

Good story but obvious

The beginning of the book is entirely different from the middle in tone. The main character changes dramatically. I enjoyed watching his growth. The ending leaves the reader wanting to know more.

A little easy to predict but overall an interesting story with decent characters. It can probably stand as a stand alone. I can’t say I’m dying to see what happens next. But I would read it.

This had so many twists and turns. It is very well written and, sadly, very believable. This story is very up to date.
Thanks to Dan Boehner for an outstanding performance.

The narration was exceptional. Story was excellent. My first book from this author and I’ll look for more.

I didn’t enjoy or not enjoy the book. I have mixed feelings, I like the premise but it gets a little too sci-fi for me. Narrated very well, but the story left much to be desired. I wouldn’t tell someone not to read it but I also won’t recommend it.

I enjoyed the book, but it just stops….even books with sequels usually wrap up better than this one did. It was a stretch of imagination to start and the sequel-less non-ending implies it was too much of a stretch for Birmingham. Hope he finishes his story one day.
