Would life be better without alcohol?

It’s the nagging question more and more of us are finding harder to ignore, whether we have a “problem” with alcohol or not. After all, we yoga. We green juice. We meditate. We self-care. And yet, come the end of a long workday, the start of a weekend, an awkward social situation, we drink. One glass of wine turns into two turns into a bottle. In the face of how we care for ourselves otherwise, it’s hard to avoid how alcohol really makes us feel: terrible.

How different would our lives be if we stopped drinking on autopilot? If we stopped drinking altogether? Really different, it turns out. Really better. Frank, funny, and always judgment-free, Sober Curious is a bold guide to choosing to live hangover-free, from Ruby Warrington, one of the leading voices of the new sobriety movement.

Drawing on research, expert interviews, and personal narrative, Sober Curious is a radical takedown of the myths that keep so many of us drinking. Inspiring, timely, and blame-free, Sober Curious is both conversation starter and handbook - essential information that empowers listeners to transform their relationship with alcohol so we can lead our most fulfilling lives.

I am almost finished with this self-help book and think that what Ms. Warrington has to say is very intelligent and meaningful - but I'm starting to flinch every time I hear "f...." incorporated into the text. It's gratuitous and meaningless and does not help her message at all.

I'm not a prude and not afraid of strong language used in the right context, but what the heck? It's like she's trying to prove her toughness with crude language. It spoils listening to what is otherwise written with intelligence and sincerity and would prevent me from recommending this book to anyone else.

Abusing the F bomb

This book was odd, as she didn't seem to have an issue with alcohol so why did she write it? She's not qualified on the science of alcohol, and not an alcoholic... So I'm not sure why anyone would read this book, as it's not a scientific book, and her memoirs aren't relatable to the alcoholic.

Not relatable

This book has some good nuggets, but they get lost in the constant trash language and new age speech. The author also seems to pander towards black Americans, she also aligns and supports with BLM (a corrupt organization that does not help black Americans, it’s mission is to get its leaders rich, make black Americans look helpless, and is primarily funded by wealthy, racist, liberal Americans).

A good book in general but could do with out the constant F bombs and foul language.

I am joining in on this sober curious journey. Ruby Warrington’s insight connected me with my split off thinking and helped me ground in the truth of my self-awareness and well-being. Highly recommend this to others having trouble being true to themselves consistently.

Highly relatable.

Amazing book that really dives into societal norms on alcohol and the benefits of drinking less (or none). BUT I had to skip over the chapter titled 'Vision for a Hangover-Free Society' that is truly her rambling on about white supremacy and how people drinking are essentially numbing themselves which makes them more complicit to the problem. Ridiculous - no need for the chapter and completely irrelevant to her overall message with this book.

Great, insightful book - but I had to skip a chapter

I've suppose you could say that I've always been curious about whether my life would be better if i quit drinking. This book puts structure, support, reason, and encouragement behind that thought and presents the material in a convincing but completely genuine way.

Something Everybody Should Hear

Rather preachy. Didn't learn much. But it's nice to be reminded why sobriety, or moderation, is important.

Meh

Some good ideas in there, but lots of writers viewpoints skew idea of book.
