Acerca de esta escucha

William Kent Krueger—“a master storyteller at the top of his game” (Kristin Hannah)—returns with a breathtaking new novel in his New York Times bestselling Cork O’Connor series.

After the teenage daughter of a prominent Minnesota politician goes missing, a huge manhunt is launched to find her. But when Cork O’Connor’s grandson Waaboo stumbles across the shallow grave of a young Ojibwe woman while hunting blueberries, nobody seems to care. Nobody, that is, except Cork and the newly formed Iron Lake Ojibwe Tribal Police Department. As Cork and the tribal officers dig into the circumstances of her murder, they discover a link to the missing girl that suggests these are not isolated incidents, but evidence of something much more sinister.

Already, tensions in the small town of Aurora, Minnesota, are high as residents gather to protest an oil pipeline that is being constructed through the pristine forests sacred to the Ojibwe at a place known as Spirit Crossing. In the meantime, little Waaboo, who has a unique connection with the dead woman, has become a target for the killers, and Cork’s daughter, Annie, has returned home with a secret that threatens to tear the family apart. The closer Cork gets to finding the answers he seeks, the more he fears for the people he loves.

The Cork O’Connor series overall has been excellent. Granted, there have been a few that I didn’t enjoy much, but there have been others that are just breathtaking. The author makes the people and the country a part of the series. I really enjoyed this latest book in the series.

So much more than just another murder mystery

Narrator made it hard to get thru. Flat, every character had the same personality and intonation was really off

Good story. Narration was weird

I love this series so much! I couldn't stop listening. Such a sad ending. WKK is a fantastic writer and storyteller and I am so glad that David Chandler has narrated the entire series. He does a fantastic job! I'm ready for the next book now...hint, hint.

So sad...

Great story, characters and sincerity. I’ve read all 20 books. Each one gets better and better.

Love this series!

Love this author and this whole series but David Chandler’s intonation is so off putting for most of the characters it was hard to listen to. His normal reading voice is awesome so I don’t really get why he did the characters so awkwardly. But again, I love this series and that the indigenous people are key in these books.

Great story. Cringy narration.

I love the characters who by now have become family.
This story had too many crises and moved too slowly

Another chapter in the world of the O Connersi

I have loved this entire series ever since I was led to it via an external review for This Tender Land. After listening to that novel, i was so captivated by WKK's writing, his characters and settings that I had to have more. I highly recommend the Cork O'Connor series. When you make it through Book 20, see if you don't agree with me that it's the best in the series so far!

The best yet!

It seems like it has been a while, but Cork and crew return in full force. The author throws in a good mystery, there some good news, some bad news but it's still life in northern Minnesota.

The author has really integrated the Native American culture into this series. I haven't been there so have to take the author at his word. It seems as if the Native American culture of the area is trying to integrate into the mainstream of life there. It's not perfect and the author points out that there are many challenges. As with most things in life, it's a work in progress.

I'll look forward to the next Cork O'Connor story.

This is an amazing series by an amazing author told by an amazing narrator. I’d gladly listen to anything these two do - separately or together. Bravo!
