Acerca de esta escucha

Once a violent, primitive race, Vulcans renounced their warlike nature for logic. But a small faction established the Romulan Empire, where the old Vulcan way flourished. Now, deep in Romulan territory, an underground movement to reunite two worlds of common ancestry is under way - a reunion some have waited a lifetime to see and others would give their lives to stop. Continuing the mission he began in Unification, Starfleet Ambassador Spock endeavors to impart the logic of the Vulcans to a small band of Romulans. But Spock and his students are taken hostage. Fearful that Spock's knowledge of Federation security will fall into enemy hands, Starfleet dispatches the U.S.S. Enterprise 1701-D, and Jean-Luc Picard, to secure the hostages' release. Ambassador McCoy - more than 140 years old - is brought in to consult on the negotiations. Their situation is further complicated when Captain Montgomery Scott confiscates an out-of-service starship and effects his own daring rescue of Spock. Picard must now find a way to preserve the Federation's security and prevent a war while dealing with deadly Romulan politics that threaten his ship, his crew, and the Federation.

the story was excellent. Jonathan Frakes gives an excellent voice performance. his Picard and Scotty in particular are rather convincing. This is one of those books that are written well enough that when you remember it you confuse whether you've heard it as a book or watch it as a movie.

Jonathan Frakes gives an excellent performance

Fun little story, with a familiar voice in Jonathan Frakes, taking you through an adventure with characters from the Original Series and The Next Generation. The only thing I would want is more or another project like it to come along.

Great quick Star Trek story.

Much too short, both for the money and for the content. Frakes does give us a hilarious Picard impression, however.

Stunted only by its abridgment.

Established characters act out of character just to advance the convoluted plot which contains major plot holes.

This is a good little story delivering the crossover a lot of fans called for between the original series and next generation. While it can be a little over the top (especially with Scotty's engineering skills) it has a lot of enjoyable moments between crew members and good adventure scenes. I also think the story of the Romulans and the Vulcans as a core reason for the story conflict works extremely well.

Yes this was adapted for Audio which means it is abridged with scenes cut out. It is obvious some of those scenes were important to the story. Still the story works overall and was interesting as told. The abridgement makes sense as it was recorded in an era when such recordings demanded a larger amount of file space or storage items. I do think these sorts of novels could be rerecorded now for the benefit of current listeners.

Jonathan Frakes does a fine job as a voice actor and tries hard to deliver Scotty's accent. I do agree with others his impression of Picard is interesting. Frakes does a good, if thankless, job of delivering this story and keeping it understandable. Unfortunately the recording doesn't help him. I dont mind special effect sounds but if they're significantly louder and drowning out the words of the voice actor or causing pain when wearing headphones that is a problem. Further many of the characters have a weird reverb that distorts their words and makes them harder to understand. These sorts of production issues really hurt the overall end product and cause me to say the book should be avoided.

Indulgent Fun
