Acerca de esta escucha

Before the Rebellion, the Empire reigns, in book one of a trilogy told through the eyes of Mon Mothma, Bail Organa, and Saw Gerrera—for fans of Andor.

“In order to ensure the security and continuing stability, the Republic will be reorganized into the first Galactic Empire! For a safe and secure society!”

With one speech and thunderous applause, Chancellor Palpatine brought the era of the Republic crashing down. In its place rose the Galactic Empire. Across the galaxy, people rejoiced and celebrated the end of war—and the promises of tomorrow. But that tomorrow was a lie. Instead, the galaxy became twisted by the cruelty and fear of the Emperor’s rule.

During that terrifying first year of tyranny, Mon Mothma, Saw Gerrera, and Bail Organa face the encroaching darkness. One day, they will be three architects of the Rebel Alliance. But first, each must find purpose and direction in a changing galaxy, while harboring their own secrets, fears, and hopes for a future that may never come unless they act.

The voice acting, sound effects, and ambient music were all immersive without detracting from the story. Very much heightened the experience over all. Highly recommend.

Fantastic production

This is a good filler for the new timeline. The story tells the actions of several key figures in the early days of the Empire. It sets up several tangents

Good Book

January is beyond reproach. I hope she narrates the subsequent novels in this series. The character of Mon Mothma is gifted a robust and complex background.

Great political strategizing

Just as advertised- this is a book that will get you in the mood for Andor season 2 😎 Mon Mothma and Bail Organa are the stars of this book for sure. Looking forward to the next two!

Andor hype is real!!

Fantastic political thriller that fits perfectly in the “Andorverse”. A must read for any fan of Andor or Rogue One.

A look into the inner workings of the beginning of the Empire and the Rebellion.

Have you ever been curious about what the days following the dreaded and infamous Order 66 was like for the non-force sensitive individuals and former fighters?

Look no further. Alexander Freed has composed a truly riveting story from at some points 4 to 5 different perspectives from within the aftermath of Order 66. The Jedi have fallen, Coruscant and countless other worlds have been destroyed or badly damaged, millions of lives have been lost, and yet the Senate must continue to legislate. The question remains, what does this new dawn truly mean for the galaxy?

Although there are multiple character perspectives covered in this novel, one could argue that the main characters of the story, written by Freed, are Senator Mon Mothma, Senator Bale Organa and Separatist assassin Soujen Vak-Nhalis. It is these three perspectives that we view the remnants of the Galaxy following the Clone Wars.

Senator Mothma clearly shaken and confused by the eradication of the Jedi seeks to continue with legislation hoping to withdrawal the unconditional powers given to palpatine in the final stages of the war. She works tirelessly to whip votes from different coalitions, both political allies and enemies as well as the surviving separatists who seek to reintegrate into the Galactic Senate.

Meanwhile, Senator Organa struggles struggles with the facts that the Jedi deserved their fate. Having had close relationships with many Jedi, including Obi-Wan Kenobi, Organa seeks to uncover the truth behind the catalyst to Order 66 and potentially clear the names of a lost people. As a very charming and visible Senator, Organa utilizes all of his resources and favors to embark on a journey to find out if the Jedi were set up and what this means for Palpatine's reign.

Lastly we have Soujen, an Alfredorsian, who as a young man, was sold the chance to improve his life and do something that matters by becoming an augmented Separatist assassin during the Clones War. but now the Clone Wars are over and Soujen has been "asleep" when he is awoken by pirates stealing his hibernation pod. Now awake Soujen realizes that the Clone Wars have ended, the Separatists have lost, and his mission left unfulfilled. Using what resources he has and the skills provided by his augs, Soujen meets up with the likes of Saw Gerrera and his band of guerillas who continue to carry on as if the war never ended. With clearly opposing goals, Soujen infiltrates the war band to get to where he needs to go, a Separate cache hidden on a forgotten world.

As the book progresses these three perspective among others collide and the audience is given a truly engaging and unique perspective of the Empire and its machinations from its origin upward.

The novel itself is well written, albeit a little slow in the beginning as each perspective is established however prior to the 50% Mark the novel picks up pace, stakes get higher,, risks become riskier, and consequences come into play.

The narrator of this audiobook January Lavoy is a significant talent and I found her ability to make every single character unique in their voice, inflection and personality riveting. in fact I was very sad to find that the book was over as I have grown significantly comfortable and accustomed to her voice.

If you are a fan of the political side of Star Wars as well as the hit television show Andor, I strongly suggest checking out this book as it will provide a lot of insight and context for the Canon that follows it.

Lots of similarities to US politics today, please send a copy to the Democrats. Great story, performance and piece of the Star Wars universe.

So Good

Intriguing story that showed us sides of Mon Mothma we never knew. Between this and Andor, Mon has really sky rocketed from a background character in a short scene to an important player in the Star Wars universe.

Viewing the Emperor's rise to power is eerily chilling given today's political climate.

Great back story for Bail, Mon Mothma, and Saw.
