Mainstream readers will be drawn to the intense action scenes, and the heroic resolve and diversity of the characters, each of whom attempt in their own way to cope with a failing civilization. The author describes scenes from Nepal to the Badlands of North Dakota. Unique from other recent novels of this genre, the story invokes optimism for the future, similar to a modern cross between George Stewart’s 1946 classic Earth Abides and Pat Frank’s Alas, Babylon.
