Acerca de esta escucha

Embark on a global adventure to descend into a salt mine, knead bread, harvest olives, and pluck fresh figs. What you discover will forever change the way you read the Bible - and approach every meal. Also includes delicious recipes.

One of America's most beloved teachers and writers, Margaret Feinberg, goes on a remarkable journey to unearth God's perspective on food.

She writes that since the opening of creation, God, the master chef, seeds the world with pomegranates and passion fruit, beans and greens and tangerines. When the Israelites wander in the desert for 40 years, God, the pastry chef, delivers the sweet bread of heaven. After arriving in the Promised Land, God reveals himself as barbecue master, delighting in meat sacrifices. Like his foodie father, Jesus throws the disciples an unforgettable two-course farewell supper to be repeated until his return.

This groundbreaking audiobook provides a culinary exploration of Scripture. You'll descend 400 feet below ground into the frosty white caverns of a salt mine, fish on the Sea of Galilee, bake fresh matzo at Yale University, ferry to a remote island in Croatia to harvest olives, spend time with a Texas butcher known as "the meat apostle", and wander a California farm with one of the world's premier fig farmers.

With each visit, Margaret asks, "How do you read these Scriptures, not as theologians, but in light of what you do every day?" Their answers will forever change the way you read the Bible - and approach every meal.

Taste and See is a delicious listen that includes dozens of recipes for those who, like Margaret, believe some of life's richest moments are spent savoring a meal with those you love.

Perhaps God's foodie focus is meant to do more than satisfy our bellies. It's meant to heal our souls, as we learn to taste and see the goodness of God together. After all, food is God's love made edible.

See you around the table!

I purchased this book because I heard the author on a podcast. I was truly blessed by the contents of the story. Listening to the author’s food related journey has given me a fresh perspective on God’s Blessings through food. I was especially moved by her details of the Passover meal.

This book really digs into the meanings and important of different foods from biblical times and, just as with her other book "Scouting The Divine" relates it all to modern times. My favorite part is the story of Matza. She also includes recipes and talks about how to bring it all to the table for community and fellowship.

If you love food, gathering with people, and want to develop more of a heart for hospitality, I highly recommend this one! She took a deep dive into food references in the Bible, spending time with fishermen in Israel, a fig farmer, olive groves, salt mines, etc. and looking at the bigger context and meaning behind the verses that reference food.
Some favorite quotes (there were more, but I listened to a lot of this one while driving):
—“When we gather to eat, God wants to nourish more than our bodies. He wants to nourish our souls with transcendent joy and supernatural community and Divine presence. When we feed our physical appetites in community we open our hearts for God to feed something deeper as well.” —“Bread welcomes us into the community for which our souls were made.” —“Every table is a doorway, an entrance into a holy and sacred communion with God and those around us... recognize food as a gift from God instead of a commodity. Every mealtime is an opportunity to be on the lookout for Christ to reveal Himself in surprising ways.” —“May your table be set, not just with food but vulnerability and delight. May your mouth be filled not just with morsels of meat but reminders of God’s loving kindness. And may every meal at which you find yourself be a foretaste of the feast to come.”

Provided you have a snack handy as recommended by the authoress herself, I would encourage anyone to read this book. The deep dives she did into the foods and their Jewish significance were incredible my understanding of the Gospel has grown significantly because of it. Her stories of her adventures along the way were fun. Lately, I have been learning about the significance of the connection between the spiritual and the physical and this book highlights that connection and its significance so perfectly. It is a truly wonderful book.

Must Read (with a snack)!!
