Acerca de esta escucha

In Northern Michigan, nature is about to reveal its deadliest secret.

A series of strange events baffle the residents of a local resort town. People go into the water and disappear; lakeshore properties are mysteriously vacant; and a bizarre slimy mass accumulates within the weeds.

When his customers begin to vanish without a trace, resort owner Greg Goodman unites with the local Sheriff to investigate the matter. Before long, they realize something is lurking in this lake—something that was not here before.

The threat quickly escalates beyond the reach of the shoreline, forcing drastic government response, and attracts the attention of the mysterious organization N.E.C.T.O.R. led by Doctor Mike Wilkow.

As a follow-up to Creature from the Crevasse, this one didn’t quite hit the same mark. It’s not a bad read, but it definitely didn’t have the same impact as the first book in the series.

The story felt a bit disjointed at times, and I found it harder to visualise the creatures this time round. In a creature-feature type of book, that’s a bit of a problem - you want to feel like you’re right there, facing the unknown. Here, the descriptions just didn’t stick as well.

There’s also a strange pacing shift midway through. The situation escalates dramatically, as if all hell is about to break loose, but then it kind of fizzles out. For something that seemed to threaten society on a massive scale, the fallout felt surprisingly muted at one stage.

That said, it still had its moments and was a fun read overall. Just not nearly as gripping or memorable as the first book. Worth picking up if you enjoyed the first one, but go in with slightly lowered expectations.

Doesn't live up to the first book in the series

Between the cover art and the summary you probably have a good idea of whether you'll enjoy this story or not. While it is part of a series reading the first one isn't necessary but I would recommend it as it was equally enjoyable. There are some recurring characters but only towards the end. This author writes the best type of B movies, Not just monsters and action pack but the characters are likable and while sometimes there are one you're like okay I don't care if that one doesn't make it most of them are three dimensional. His stories are usually enjoyable and he's replaced Clive Cussler as my go-to popcorn read.
