A short story from James Lee Burke's story collection, Jesus Out to Sea.

Burke is one of the country's most acclaimed and popular novelists. He elegantly marries his flair for gripping storytelling with an urbane writing style and complex, fascinating character portraits. The backdrop of the hurricane-ravaged Gulf Coast proves to be a versatile setting for Burke's stories, which cover the scope of the human experience, from love and sex to domestic abuse, to war and death and friendship.

Would you be willing to try another book from James Lee Burke? Why or why not?

Yes, great character development within a compact space.

Have you listened to any of Ron McLarty’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No.

Could you see Texas City, 1947 being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

This story would make a good movie. I don' know any current child actor names...Fred Savage would have been a good fit back in the day for the central character.

More 'Texas City' was in the title than the story.

Good enough story but the title is very deceiving. Story is about a family in Louisiana and only a few sentences that relate to the 1947 disaster in Texas City, Texas. Narration was good.

Not about the 1947 disaster.
