Friends at seven, lovers at 17, Katherine and Jack were meant to be together.

But Jack, an orphan, is determined to make his fortune, while Katherine must make a good match.

Seven years later, Katherine is now a widow, awaiting the return of her beloved Jack.

Only to discover that Jack is bound by a betrothal agreement upon which his honor depends.

And while Jack still loves Katherine, he truly believes she chose to elope with another man the night he set sail for the West Indies.

Will duty and honor separate them once again?

This is book four in the Scandalous Miss Brightwells series, but it can be listened to as a standalone.

If you want to listen to the audiobook about Jack and Katherine when they were children, The Wedding Wager (book three) tells the love story of Jack's mother, who discovers Jack seven years after she was forced to put him in the Foundling Home.

I really wanted to enjoy this audiobook! I noticed immediately that the quality of the narrator wasn't up to what I was used to hearing, and it quickly interfered with the story itself. It was only more than halfway in (after hearing the narrator totally flub a sentence, then completely start over, none of the error edited out) that I finally looked up the name and realized it was the author reading it. 🤦🏻‍♀️ It reminded me of when a teacher reads to the children.. it did NOT deliver well in the bedroom scene.

As for the story itself, I REALLY wish I could've heard it from an actual voice actor because it was a very sweet story! Even with the terrible narrating I gritted my teeth and pushed through it bc I was very invested in it.

So Much Potential!
