It recounts the murders of Ronnie Hard Heart and Wallace Black Elk near the controversial town of Whiteclay, Nebraska, which sells millions of cans of beer per year to the dry Pine Ridge Reservation, and American Indian Movement led marches on the town to demand justice for the unsolved murders. The Death of Raymond Yellow Thunder won the 2009 Nebraska Nonfiction Book of the Year award, a bronze medal from ForeWord Magazine in the regional nonfiction category and nominations for book of the year by The Center of Great Plains Studies and The Writers’ League of Texas.
