Acerca de esta escucha

In an Edenic future, a girl and her father live close to the land in the shadow of a lone mountain. They possess a few remnants of civilization: some books, a pane of glass, a set of flint and steel, a comb. The father teaches the girl how to fish and hunt, the secrets of the seasons and the stars. He is preparing her for an adulthood in harmony with nature, for they are the last of humankind. But when the girl finds herself alone in an unknown landscape, it is a bear that will lead her back home through a vast wilderness that offers the greatest lessons of all, if she can only learn to listen.

A cautionary tale of human fragility, of love and loss, The Bear is a stunning tribute to the beauty of nature's dominion.

Editorial Review

A literary thriller that boasts plot and character
Andrew Krivak’s The Bear is a methodical, evocative, and magical story. Drifting in and out of parables, myths, and the fluid language of the natural world—it somehow never feels lost. It’s in fact very simple, but incredibly layered. In narrator Eric Jason Martin’s steady, almost melodious narration, at first you feel like you have entered a fantastical field manual where profound questions of human nature are unearthed in old-world survival skills like making a bow and arrow, fishing, or navigation. But what you find yourself fiercely following is a young girl coming to terms with harsh realities and a heritage of grief that is widely relatable, and deeply moving. —Michael D., Audible Editor

Unlike most post-apocalypse novels, this one has no warring humans, no bad guys. Instead, its characters live in the natural world, and are fully a part of the nature around them, while surviving, loving, and grieving,
The text moves gracefully between exact descriptions of the natural world and mythic interactions with animals.
Excellent narration.

The book is still with me. I highly recommend it.

Haunting and beautifully told

Lovely story of man living in balance with nature. Part parable, part fable and part myth. Charming and thought provoking. Perfect narration, although I did up the speed to 1.2 as I do with many listens.

A Mystical and Poetic Journey

Beautiful story about nature, humans and meaning. Definitely give it a listen! It’s delicate and effective. You can tell that the author took a lot of care when telling the story.

Best

I could not understand the point of the story. Or actually how the old lady survived without no one but herself and the animals she heard talking. Very strange book

Relationship between father and daughter

Liked it. Have never read a story like this. Parallel’s how a Native American story would be told

Interesting story

The girl and her father live in a world devoid of humans. It is a beautifully evoked story of hope and strength in adversity. Highly recommended.

A beautiful apocalyptic story

I very much enjoyed the story, but the reader was not the best fit for it in my opinion. Too many long pauses and his voice and manner just didn't match the story.

Reader does no justice to the writing.

Not what I expected but interesting. Begs one to think of more depth in life.

Interesting

I liked the story. It had many elements of the basic needs to survive if living off the earth, and therefore what it takes to survive: love, relationship, wonder, and food/shelter. I couldn’t tell if it was post-apocalyptic or maybe just remote wilderness. But that’s okay because I don’t think that is the main point,
