A young man wanting to protect his family begins an epic journey.

Life on the farm at the edge of the kingdom is anything but routine for Ashan. The plains around Berestal suffer from severe storms, making travel to the city difficult, with the threat of an attack from the people of Vard always looming. He long ago abandoned dreams of serving as a dragon rider, caring for his injured father and brother, but everything is about to change.

A Vard attack forces Ashan to risk everything to protect his sister. Doing so brings him closer to the dragons than he had ever imagined, but brings him into a war he never intended to join. Somehow, Ashan and his best friend might be the only ones able to prevent the Vard from reaching a prize they'd long sought, if only they can survive the dangers of the forest, the mysterious Djarn people, a terrifying creature chasing them, and the power of a dragon mage.

The stroryline is great but at times it feels dragged out or repetitive. The facts and thoughts are repeated and feels unessasary at times.

I will continue reading the series, but it is a casual listen. I skipped part of the book, and it got more exciting towards the end.

Each book, although filled with interactions, does not provide many answers about an academic level of education.

Brian Holden needs to have a lot more fun when reading books. I felt 0 Enthusiasm from this reader. literally I turned it off over a dozen times because I could not get past how boring his reading was. When a line was read and it was supposed to have some emphasis on key parts to make it a little dramatic or exciting instead I felt as though I was at a vocabulary funeral.
Bluntly, his reading was terrible. And because of this I will not buy the rest of the Audible portion for this series.
I'm a Truck driver. I listen to the Audible Reading because it not very safe for me to read a book and drive an 80,000lb truck on our Highways and Interstates.

I love DK Holmberg's books, but I could not get past 5 minutes due to the narrators horrible voice, and inability to make different voices for characters that weren't as annoying as his own.

I’ve listened to about half of the story so far and it is so boring and so pointless. It’s like it was written by someone in junior high school, and they would’ve gotten a C on it for their grade. The narrator lacks the voice and the inflection to do a decent job telling a story not very good. Glad it was free.

the only advice I can give if your listing to this book is to speed it up to 1.2 helps with boring narration.
