Acerca de esta escucha

The City of God is one of the most important works of Christian history and philosophy ever written. The writings of St. Augustine are as intriguing to the casual reader as it is to Christian researchers. St. Augustine's work provides insight into Western thought and the development of Western civilizations. The City of God provides the reader with an artful contrast between earthy cities and those in heaven as a representation of the eternal struggle between good and evil. The City of God was originally penned in the early 5th century as a response to the prevalent belief that Christianity was to blame for the fall of Rome. St. Augustine is known as one of the most influential Fathers of the Catholic Church. Born November 13, 354, Augustine would eventually be recognized as a Saint by the Catholic Church, the Eastern Christian Church, and the Anglican Communion.

Quite an incredible and realistic voice. I felt as if the Great Saint Augustine himself was teaching me. Loved it!

Awesome voice!

An astonishing intellect and spirit filled guide is St. Augustine, and the narrative reader was superb. I've had weeks of daily listening pleasure, enthralled and elevated. I repeat that experience again, after a short period of digestion. Simply beautiful.

Thank you God for Saint Augustine & the listen.

The book was excellent, especially the last few sections that were not so repetitive; albeit, worthy of historical, literary, and theological interest.

Amazing read. I would suggest this work to all students of the faith. Amazing. God bless.

Fantastic

Wow. Augustine was a smart, smart man. To my follow Christians - read this, and be tutored (and I say this as a Southern Baptist.). To those who are not Christians- if you are intellectually curious about arguments for faith at all, or a lover of history, or both (and I am both!) then please give this a go.

A philosophical KO

What a wonderful example of how life was for early Christians told through a philosophical lens.

Getting through this lengthy book was not as hard as I had originally envisioned because Augustine's City of God is a wonderful scholarly masterpiece comprised of philosophy, theology, and cultural examination. It is tragic, thought-provoking, and packed with wisdom. The narration by David McCallion was spectacular from start to finish and made the read go by much quicker than anticipated.

Wonderful Performance

Augustine is an amazing theologian, and his work was presented clearly and engagingly by McCallion.

Excellent narration of an excellent work

For those whose children have lost the faith, keep praying. Augustine's mother, St. Monica, prayed for many years that her son would turn from his profligate ways. Her prayers were answered. That someone who lived a life of dissolution would eventually mend his ways and write such a magisterial work, gives us hope that those who are lost sheep can right themselves. Not only that, they then could have the power to inspire others. Don't give up hope. Lastly, David McCallion's narration is a work of art. It is as if St. Augustine were speaking directly to me.

Brilliant Work and Brilliantly Read

Extensive detail and self examination of who God is or should be. The examination is tied closely with the Bible and the Christian God Yahweh, his son and the Holy Spirit. Heavy reading and deep thought is required by the reader.
