Acerca de esta escucha

For anyone interested in foreign affairs, this book will catalyze debate, and not only for Mr. Huntington's concluding scenario for World War III. He sees how this could happen if the U.S. mishandles an increasingly xenophobic and truculent China. Chinese assertiveness, Huntington argues, rises out of its felt grievances against a relatively weakening West. After China, the gravest challenge to the West is resurgent Islamic identity. So what to do? The West should ensure the survival of its values within a stronger European-North American alliance that can offset the emerging Sino-Islamic grouping.

Samuel P. Huntington is a political scientist at Harvard and was a foreign policy aide to President Clinton.

I'm a 4 year college grad with no specific background in this type of stuff. This book was pretty far over my head on a lot of topics. Still a good read and puts into perspective the foreign policy, wars, and politics that national leaders have to think about. Unless you are a history buff, some of the references will be lost on you. Still recommend, but there may be other books out there that are a little closer to the ground on the same topic.

Most of it was above my head, still good.

The book provides a good perspective on how the world is organized and how it operates, both at the present time and from a historical perspective. The author isolates certain scenarios and identifies many of the factors that contribute to the conditions discussed. The book was very enjoyable, but took some investment in time-well worth it though.

This book is really broad, but keeps your attention no less. Interesting analysis on global relationships, makes me want to read different perspectives of the same topics.

broad yet engaging

Interesting ideas, still actual approach. The author reviews the major civilizations and religions in the history and gives new inputs to understand the past, present and a possible future of the human history. Read it, listen it you will enjoy it.

Excellent book!

I'm a Universalist, but this book helps me to realize the limits of Univeralism Huntington is mostly just descriptrive in this. The world is a complex place with around 10 major civilizations. The civilizations have much in common including the propensity to make war with one another and thus destroy civilization in the aggregate. Civilizational leadership should try to encourage cooperation amongst civilizations. Western enlightment values and democracy have not proven uniquely good at providing good civilizational leadership.

Stands the Test of Time

this is absolutely essential reading if you want to understand the modern world, and our current geopolitical mess.

It is controversial. I read it in 2017 and some of the predictions and hypothesis are true. Some not. A good read if you are able to ignore the author's whitewashing of the Western Civilization's flaws

Biased but has some very valid points

An essential book to understand a major American point of view. An older book that will remain relevant.

Important Read

An excellent in depth review of the ways & wherefore's of the world. How each see's it's self. But how we should see each other This book offers perspectives in a global narrative. if all civilizations read it we would all be better off. Many views are offered that are usually never considered.

Outstanding

The book is great, but I had to cut points for the mispronounciation of names of people and places. For a book about variety of cultures, one would expect the narrator to do his homework in this area.

Great, but should fix the names.
