What went wrong with WCW?

In 1997, World Championship Wrestling was on top. It was the number-one pro wrestling company in the world, and the highest-rated show on cable television. Each week, fans tuned in to Monday Nitro, flocked to sold-out arenas, and carried home truckloads of WCW merchandise. Sting, Bill Goldberg, and the New World Order were household names. Superstars like Dennis Rodman and KISS jumped on the WCW bandwagon. It seemed the company could do no wrong.

But by 2001, however, everything had bottomed out. The company - having lost a whopping 95% of its audience - was sold for next to nothing to Vince McMahon and World Wrestling Entertainment. WCW was laid to rest.

How could the company lose its audience so quickly? Who was responsible for shows so horrible that fans fled in horror? What the hell happened to cause the death of one of the largest wrestling companies in the world? The Death of World Championship Wrestling is the first book to take listeners through a detailed dissection of WCW's downfall.

I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook. The narration by Bryan Alvarez was well done and did a great job not only entertaining, with the use of sarcasm, but kept me engaged in the life and The Death of WCW. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in wrestling - casual fans and smarks alike.

Well written and narrated book.

Absolutely amazing!!!!! You will love every second of it. Bryan paints a perfect picture of a very imperfect company and what led to their downfall (:cough: Russo :cough:)

Classic book that's an entertaining read or listen for any wrestling fan, regardless if you grew up during WCW's rise and fall or are a newer fan.

Bryan Alvarez did a fantastic job narrating as well, but anybody who's heard him before would probably already know that going in.

Recommended for any wrestling fan

This was a great book. I’ve read a few wrestling books and this ranks right up there as one of the best. Bryan Alvarez goes in great depth detailing WCW’s fall and I really appreciate it. I learned a lot. Great narrating too.

Fond memories of watching WCW and RAW in my teens when wrestling was scorching hot. Excellent performance by Bryan. Wrestling is so weird, beautiful, stupid and awesome.

10 Stars

This story actually turns out to be the death of professional wrestling. When the competition was gone wrestling became unwatchable. All in all the book was very good and definitely worth a listen.

What they didn’t know back then….

The book is extremely entertaining, well researched, and insightful.
The only issue is the writer can be a little pretentious and smarmy at times.
Same thing with the narrator.

Almost perfect but the narration can be such a smarmy dweeb
