I loved hearing Frank read his own works. It makes me super happy to have Scott Brick narrate his series (he’s clearly listened to this). He didn’t use the Lynch Translations. I can’t recommend this enough.

It’s a treat listening to passages from Dune novels read by the Author. This recording was made in the 1970s. Original run times of those LP/cassette are over four hours. All the content is there on this three hour download but somebody sped it up a bit making Mr. Herbert sound a bit too squeaky. Replay at 3/4 speed solves this but I sure would appreciate Audible engineers going back to ensure the integrity of this recording matches the original. Well worth a download regardless.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Dune Audio Collection to be better than the print version?

No, but after having read the books, it is a real treat to listen to Frank Herbert retell the story of the Dune Trilogy although much is left out

I havent tried any other audio books just yet

It took me a long while to go through this audio as I had just read Dune. You will definitely find spoilers if you are considering reading the entire Dune book collection. If not, listen on, and make sure to listen to the last part and second to last part. Both are exceptionally insightful into the psychology and mythology of Frank Herbert's Dune.

The audio quality isn't great, but serviceable. What's good is hearing Frank Herbert read sections from Dune and offer some commentary. If you want to pronounce the names and places -- Leto, Chani, Atreides, and more, as Herbert does, this is the best source.
