Acerca de esta escucha

As national spokesman for the Motel 6 chain, as a commentator on National Public Radio's All Things Considered, and as creator of the nationally syndicated radio program The End of the Road, Tom Bodett has a voice familiar to millions. Now you can listen, at your pleasure, to his stories about likable, genuine, slightly wacky people who live in the little Alaska town at the end of the road. Follow the romantic misadventures of sixties throwback Tamara Dupree, vegetarian activist and New Age missionary; join Stormy Storbock and Ed Flannigan on their sightseeing tour across America by fire truck; meet local ne'er-do-well Doug McDoogan, who has a bright new future in the arts. Come to Alaska and share in the emergence of a true American humorist - funny, farcical, nostalgic, provocative, and always touching.

With your own ears Tom Bodett will pull you all the way to the end of the road in Homer AK. Don’t worry, not only is it a gentle trip but you will feel so at home you’ll be reluctant to ever leave the home of so many colorful characters.

Tom Bodett never disappoints.

Tom Bodett has been extremely underrated, although his distinctive voice is everywhere from Motel 6 ads to Saturday Morning cartoons.

The people Tom describe become old friends by the end of the book. His narrative style engrosses you to the point that you're there with them. In your minds eye you follow their every exploit and laugh and cry with them. It leaves you wanting more.

Tom Bodett's voice and pace are comforting and very pleasant to listen to. His tales of a Northern Alaskan town are wholesome and entertaining. A slice of life from the end of the road. This is not the typical audio book I tend to choose, but it was a great surprize, I have listened to all of Tom Bodett's books that I have been able to get ahold of and his 'End of the Road' books are the best to be certain.

His gentle calming voice will carry you through the tales and paint pictures so vivid you will almost start packing to move to the wilderness that is the setting for his stories.

Give it a try, I think you might like it.

I just love a good storyteller, especially one who uses homespun humor and "real folks". Samuel Clemens was perhaps one of the best of these. One of my favorite storytellers when I was growing up was Erma Bombeck. Today, my favorites are Dave Barry and Tom Bodett.

I first heard "The End of the Road" many years ago as it was played in segments on Sunday nights on a radio station in Los Angeles. I ended up buying the audio version on cassettes and have listened to them so many times, I wore them out. Doesn't matter as I have nothing on which to play a cassette these days.

If I could write a story myself, the people I mentioned here would be my inspiration, but Tom Bodett probably fits my style most of all!

Note: this is the abridged version. The unabridged is far longer and better!
