I have to say I struggled to keep listening. Every time I thought it was building up to something good, it fell flat. I really liked the characters but the stories were anticlimactic....

Setting is one you would think of out in the woods, haunted, and secrets hidden untold for years. Excellent plot and narration added to this chilling story. Well done and enjoyed. Given audio for my voluntary review

The story was interesting but I just could not make it through with that narrator. Elderly people....speak.....very....slowly. A child sounds like a cartoon mouse, the main character sounds like a 14 year old, and her husband sounds morose and muffled.

I’ve been a audible member for years, I have about 500 books in my library. I have reviewed maybe 25/30 books. I had to review this book!

I’m a gen xer, very well could be the problem I have with this book….but….I’m struggling to get through book 1.

VERY MINOR SPOILERS…….The lead characters are idiots! They are struggling with money as most people are, low wages and high cost of living. Social workers, I get it, see lots of bad things with families and children. They go to this forever long way from home to see a lawyer about and inheritance. Great! Sounds promising, they could really use it!! Well, they get a house, a very large house and a note. Weird, they barely making it now, how in the hell are they going to afford upkeep? Oh well, they go see house, yes, some very odd circumstances tied to house, BUT, the lead female characters over bearing attachment to her kid! For the love of god……stop talking about your kid like he’s to fragile to handle any kind of news…he’s 10! Time to let him experience some things! Lady needs to get a grip herself!

Also, if I get a house I cannot afford, and a note. READ THE NOTE FOR PETS SAKE!! That does not help suspension at all…..it leads to irritation for the listener.

I’m doing my best to get through it but this is one of the hardest books I’ve struggled to get through. I can’t get the naïve mentality of this lolol

I did not care for the characters in either book. I'm not sure if it is the story, or the narrator, maybe a combination of the two. The second book in this boxeset was the worst. I claim my nerdom, but I found myself embarrassed when someone heard the ridiculous characterization of Sammy(in the second book). Also, the second book wanted desperately to be a comedy but didn't make it.

I'm sorry, but the worst narrator was chosen...story would have been okay but narration was awful..like I couldn't even finish. I actually paid for this... unbelievable!!

The first story in this box set, was entertaining and the reader was great. The second story was horrible,very predictable and boring. The reader in the second story was horrible, her voice made it had to listen to the story. I only got about half way through the second story and I turn it off.

Because I used my only credit I endured the second and longest of the 2 story. The first one was fine. The second , well… unless you can listen to about 20 hours of the most annoying voice weather it be the main character, the husband who seemed to sound perpetually the most bored man on earth or any of the other horribly done characters in between then don’t say you weren’t warned.
