I didn't like the fact that the characters ages weren't actually said, only implied that their children.

This is one of the best books I've read. With adventure and scare, this was very fun to read.

The narration was a bit uneven, seemed like Fred’s and the Explorer’s voices got mixed up at times. Felt like in some scenes more needed to be said to help the reader understand the dynamic that was happening. The story was good, full of action that kept it moving along. The Explorer was drawn with an inner-demon driven behavior that seemed too adult for a YA reader to understand; but in today’s world which is, IMHO, causing kids to grow up too fast, there is insight to be gleaned which could be helpful to some down the road. There was a good conclusion to the story.
