Building on her brilliant and innovative book Evolution's Rainbow, in which she challenged accepted wisdom about gender identity and sexual orientation, Roughgarden upends the notion of the selfish gene and the theory of sexual selection and develops a compelling and controversial alternative theory called social selection. Joan take a great approach at examining and dismantlement some of the main dogma of evolutionary biological theory. Unlike many people who challenge the accepted norms in biology her arguments are direct, to the point, and backed up with a lot of empirical research which is also explained in the book. Also unlike many, she presents an alternative hypothesis to those theories that she discredits, also back up with empirical studies detailed in the book.

Great book. Looses a little bit in audio format as you cant have diagrams, but a great lessen nonetheless!

Great for biologists, ecologists, and evolutionary
