It was a warm summer day in 1951 when Rose Pottinger and Mrs. Zimmermann entered the tunnel. When they had emerged, it was snowing...and the year was 1828.

Mrs. Zimmermann had felt that the ghost of Granny Wetherbee, who had taught Mrs. Zimmermann witchery, was in trouble and needed help. So she and Rose Rita had traveled to Pennsylvania where Granny had lived. I loved this book!! It has as much excitement and heart as the story of the Wizard of Oz. The characters are fascinating. The story itself is perfect for older children and for adults as well.
And,as usual,George Guidall brings passion,fear,wonder,and strength to each character. He is a wonderful story teller.

What other book might you compare The Ghost in the Mirror to and why?

House with the Clock in it's Walls. I'm still surprised that's not on audible yet. It's a pretty popular book that's being made into a movie with Jack Black.

What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?

Excellent narrator.

Any additional comments?

John Bellairs books are a lot of fun to listen to.These are classics and great for any generation. Hopefully sooner than later the whole catalog will get the audiobook/audible treatment. I know his large following would pick them all up.

The best of the John Bellairs books. I know they’re for kids but even though I’m Mrs Zimmerman’s age, I really love them. I thought I’d read them all but I must have missed this one. Excellent storyline, and the ending brought on the tears.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I originally read this book as a preteen. I've been into John Bellairs since I discovered him at age 10 or so there's a lot of nostalgia for me. But yes, I'd recommend this book to anyone who liked old-school Gothic literature or period pieces for younger readers.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mrs Zimmerman, she's a fun and "crazy" old lady who happens to be a witch and is always dressed in purple. She sounds like she'd be great to hang out with.

What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?

He had a calm and soothing voice overall and I liked his interpretation of Mrs Zimmerman and Rose Rita.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, it took me three sittings but that wasn't by choice.

Any additional comments?

It totally made my day/week when I saw Audible was finally carrying a John Bellairs title! This is actually the fourth book in the Lewis Barnavelt series, so I hope that soon we will get the rest of the series, as well as other books by John Bellairs (The Face in the Frost, the Johnny Dixon and Anthony Monday series).

I highly recommend this book to any fan of John Bellairs, or anything looking for a fun and spooky adventure.

Pure entertainment, mystery, adventure, history and touch of horror, from a girl's perspective. Makes me wonder about other famous magic umbrellas and grannies (Granny Weatherwax?) in more recent literature.

Great job by the narrator. Fun story. John Bellairs got me into reading about 35 years ago. It was nice to listen to as I commuted 2 hours to work through the Sierra Nevada mountains. I really hope George Guidall narrates more Bellairs stories...he was great!
