Acerca de esta escucha

Not every lie sounds untrue.

Some lies are repeated so often they seem to be common sense. That's why lies about God are so dangerous. The Gospel According to Satan examines eight lies the enemy wants us to believe and provides eight lines of counterattack against them. The lies include:

  • God just wants you to be happy,
  • you only live once,
  • you need to live your truth, and
  • just let go and let God.

Jared C. Wilson reveals why these lies appeal to us, shows how they harm us, and provides ways to counteract them. We can renounce Satan's counterfeit gospel, but first we must see it for what it is.

Accompanying charts are available in the audiobook companion PDF download.

"Enumerates the major ways the Devil uses his cunning and calculating ways of luring us off the narrow road of God's grace. We will all do well to read this book and confront the lies we are being sold." (Kyle Idleman, senior pastor of Southeast Christian Church and author of Not a Fan and Don’t Give Up)

"A unique, compelling, and even witty look at the devil's current greatest hits - lies we urgently need to unmask." (Sam Allberry, speaker for Ravi Zacharias International Ministries and author of 7 Myths About Singleness and Why Does God Care Who I Sleep With?)

"One of the most thought-provoking writers in the Christian world today.... He doesn’t just describe the tantalizing falsehoods of our age, he exposes how they've slithered into our hearts." (Matt Smethurst, managing editor at The Gospel Coalition and author of Before You Open Your Bible)

As always, Jared C Wilson delivers with aplomb. Great read and very encouraging. I love the way he dissects the the 8 lies we commonly believe about God and about serving God. Highly recommended!

A Book for our times

😂 Couldn’t help to read the two (at the time of writing this review) bad reviews left for Jared. Admittedly we all approach anything and everything with a bias. As much as we try not to, it is close to impossible not to do so. To read this book unbiasedly is incredibly difficult.
Now with that said, this book is great! One of the blest books I’ve read. I own a hard copy, this audio book, and a copy on my iBooks. I so much enjoyed just the synopsis of it I recommended it to my men’s group at church. It was in the men’s group that we read this book cover to cover. It helps create great discussion for this setting. It’s not an in depth theological opus, but it’s a great introduction to biblical themes and theology. It’s filled with scripture and truth. Thank you Jared, for righting this very encouraging book!

Great book that will open your eyes to the tricks of the enemy
I do not think I agree with everything that was said, but it is a must read!

Steven Grimsley was a great narrator

This was well written and clearly spoke to the heart of man. We often believe lives that sound like truth, but are often just far enough away from it that we are lost. Great narration, and great content.

What lies do you believe?

Wilson speaks truth to strengthen the Christian's faith and to enlighten those who seek God.

Not A Story

I appreciated this book overall. It was a good reminder of some of the lies that we tend to let slip into our lives and theology. I tend to get distracted when Reformed/Calvinist theologians get on a roll about how their interpretation of scripture is clearly the only correct interpretation. The author made a comment about Wesleyan theology being a form of perfectionism. He didn’t really explain that, but I thought it was a bit of a stretch. It didn’t take up the whole book, and it didn’t ruin it for me, but like I said, it does take my mind off what they are actually talking about as I try to separate myself from the Calvinist/Arminian debate and think about their comments objectively. That being said, there were plenty of times the author was very honest, vulnerable, and humble in describing his own experiences. I appreciated that he was introspective and honest enough to admit that he tended towards legalism by nature, and that this is not desirable. I’ve seen others get defensive about this and even claim that it is right for them to be “legalists” (this depends heavily on context, of course) and that those claiming that they are being legalistic are calling the law sin (as Paul objects in Romans), when that’s also clearly not what they are doing. Ironically, these arguments can lead to divisions in the church, which, even as this book makes clear, is one of the enemy’s main tactics. Not to say that this book is not worth your time, but to sum it up, Satan wants us to question God, then ultimately forget God and to be “self reliant”. He wants our pride to swell so big that we idolize ourselves. The same strategy he used in the garden, he will use on you personally to separate you from God, so arm yourself with the Word, following Jesus’s example.

A useful book

The Gospel According to Satan is a grace-filled, yet convicting book that pokes at the beliefs we Christians hold that are contrary to what God has actually said in Scripture. A week after listening, I'm still ruminating on some things that the Lord is working on correcting in me.

Jared's writing is accessible for anyone, but filled with thought-provoking spiritual truths and always the Gospel of Jesus.

The narrator was good, but I would have preferred to listen to the author narrate his own book.

Highly recommend.

Necessary Corrective Truth

As a pastor, I did enjoy Wilson’s summary of the eight lies Satan tries to sell to the church and to the world. It was informative and helpful to say the least. Was it ground breaking? No. But it was a good book to remind us of the devil’s schemes and how he tries to influence our hearts, minds, and souls.

I’m not Reformed, so I disagree with some of his theological points. He is a huge advocate with PSA and he may be correct. But he failed to research recapitulation atonement held by the early church and present it in his book. In Wilson’s mind, we must have violence to gain forgiveness with God. You may agree with him and I would say more power to you.

Overall, if you’re interested in discovering how Satan is planning against you and I and want to combat the lies from hell, this would be a good book for you to listen too. Enjoy!

This book takes an insightful and biblical examination and answer to modern clichés and sayings that are embedded in modern evangelical "theology". Simultaneously, the true gospel is brought into the light.
