I might be a grandmother. But I’m not some sweet, harmless old lady who people can push around.

Two little girls stand with their heads bowed in my living room. I’m told they’re my granddaughters. Daisy is nine, and Alice seven. Daisy is the spitting image of her mother. This is the first time I’ve met them since my daughter and I fell out after she married that waste of space, Vince.

They’ve come to live with me because their mother — my daughter — was murdered. In her own home while they slept close by.

I think Vince killed her. But the police can’t prove it. I’ve always known he was no good. He treated my daughter like dirt. I said he’d cheat on her — but she wouldn’t listen.

Now he wants his daughters back.

Over my dead body.

I finally have a family of my own. And nobody is going to take it away from me.

Anna Cordell trained in acting for theatre, radio, film and TV at Manchester Metropolitan University and has worked in film, TV, theatre and radio. She is an experienced voice artist with commercial, corporate, film and TV credits, as well as ELT and ADR work. Anna is a popular audiobook reader, having narrated for Penguin, Harper Collins HQ, Imprint, Bolinda Publishing, ISIS and WF Howes. Her radio credits for BBC Drama include Is There Room in Your Life? and the lead role in Dead Treasure.

About the Performer

Max is an actor from South West London. He trained for three years at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and has worked on large theatrical projects since graduating, including roles in Witness for the Prosecution and the Olivier Award-winning The Inheritance. Max has voiced a regular Cartoon Network promo and various corporate, commercial and ADR jobs. His audiobook credits include Charlotte Rixon's After the Fire and The Four Thoughts That F-ck You Up ... and How to Fix Them by Daniel Fryer.

I think what I liked the most was watching how an elderly woman interacts with the kids. Also of course a very good twisty murder mystery

I am a true mystery buff, so it hard to find stories that I cannot figure out who did it within the first few chapters. This book keep me on my toes all the way to the end.

I immensely enjoyed this book. The only recommendations that I would have is to rename the chapters. It was well written, captivating and has a lot of unexpected twists.

The story was great, kept my attention,wanted to get back to it quickly and I loved the Grandmother's voice via the narrators was great! Very good listen.
