A Warhammer 40,000 Audiobook

The galactic core is beset by warp storms of a fury the Leagues of Votann have not seen for ten millennia. With both the Imperium of Man and the powers of the warp encroaching further and further onto the Kin’s territories, war reigns supreme amongst the coreward stars.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

Hear what happens when a Hernkyn Prospect leader and her companions are plunged into a venture beyond their wildest expectations, and find themselves set against an ancient, deadly foe guarding a mysterious but magnificent prize.

THE STORY

Myrtun Dammergot, leader for the Kindred of the Eternal Starforge, is in her element, exploiting the unending conflict and living a life of adventure, without the unwanted burden of responsibility.

But when a messenger from her Kindred’s Hold ship brings news that upends everything she knows, responsibility, challenges, and opportunity come knocking.

It’s fine, but for how long it took them to make this, I was hoping for more. It introduces you to a character for one of the great leagues, shows you the relationship the kin have towards each other, and sets up a future plot.

Took em long enough

Give me more Votann. Space Marines need to chill out and take a break for awhile

so much great lore

Not once did someone try to sound like the Scottsman from Samuri Jack!!! other than that, wonderful book.

good first dive into the Kin

It just felt like a pretty generic story that gave little story or real world building to the Votann faction. First 3/4 of the book were very slow and the last 1/4 had an alright climax with some corny moments. Any non Imperium factions always get subpar books so they are consistent in that much.

Not bad not great

Overall I enjoyed that the book established a lot about Kin society and they think and behave, which is something. the faction was really needing. Unfortunately, outside of that, I found the characters and story very boring and difficult to care about. It spends a lot of time re-establishing itself over and over only for what felt like a very half baked climax.
I would recommend it to anyone who wants a better understanding of Votann and Kin on a lore level, but would not recommend to anyone else really.

Good Lore establishment; lack luster story

For the first book about the Votann I'm a bit disappointed in it. Story didn't really go anywhere and was largely forgettable.

It's Okay

A worthwhile wait for more lore on the Leagues of Votann! This book provides deep insight into the culture of the Leagues, whilst also providing a story that draws on the science-fantasy themes 40k is known for.

It was good! Very different from Space Marine books like the Horus Heresy and such, but still a very enjoyable adventure. Looking forward to the next one!

Learning more about how the Votann operate as a faction/race was really nice. Very befitting for Dwarves in a setting like this. It was also nice to see how they interact with some of the other factions/races of the Galaxy, especially the Imperium where sometimes they are allies and sometimes not so much. I like how the Votann seem to operate in a much more Bureacratic sense compared to the Imperium. Where the Imperium seems to operate more like a Fuedal Empire the Votann seem to operate more like a large Corporate conglomerate in a lot of ways with board members, executives, and unions (unions being the guilds). Overall, from a lore perspective, I think this added quite a lot and has improved my enjoyment of the faction as someone who plays them on Tabletop.

The voice acting leaves a lot to be desired, but isn't offensively bad. There were more than a few times I'd be confused as to which character is talking and I had to go back and re-listen, but this could just be a skill issue on my part possibly.

The story itself seemed kind of ok. Not bad, but not great. It started off very interestingly with a group of Hearnkyn harvesting a Tyranid bio ship and the ensuing chaos of such an endeavor being tied in with the prolouge. The story after felt kind of slow, but I'm not sure if that's on purpose because the Votann themselves are known for doing things slowly and methodically over a long time. If it is on purpose, I can't tell, but regardless the story is somewhat slow a lot of the time, wether someone enjoys that or not is personal preference. The dichotomy of Kyn politics is quite enjoyable but drags somewhat from time to time and could stand to be shorter (no pun intended). The characterization I think is very good for an interpretation of Dwarves overall. Some sequences of events in the writing felt rushed and were confusing at times, but not so much that I'd lose track of what's going on. Overall, not bad, but needs a bit more polish.

Good book. If you like Space Dwarves, give it a listen, or preferably just read it yourself.

Space Dwarves

The Leagues of Votaan haven't been fleshed out much to this point. This novel is not only a fantastic step in doing just that, but is an excellent story independent of that fact. The Kyn are an exceptionally likeable and engaging group of protagonists, and I highly recommend this to any fans of the setting.

Great Lore for the Leagues
