As a young man, Randall Woodfield had it all; he was a star athlete with good looks and was an award-winning student. Working in the swinging West Coast bar scene, he had more than his share of women. But he wanted more than just sex. An appetite for unspeakable violent acts led him to cruise the I-5 highway through California to Washington, leaving a trail of victims along the way. As the list of the dead grew, the police mobilized to stop a twisted killer who had 44 known deaths to his name.

In 2019, people (including myself) tend to love the quick, free hit of true crime horror they get with their favorite podcasts. True crime books of the past, however, particularly those by your Ann Rules and your Philip Carlos, give so much greater a picture that it’s basically day and night. Not to mention that these writers went thru the grizzly duty of interviewing the victims and the damned.
Like all of Ann Rules other books that I’ve read, The I-5 Killer is thorough, well organized, and chilling. I am glad, too, that true crime had a female writer at the time, because the huge number of women sexually assaulted in books written by men tend to be from the male gaze perspective, and slightly disrespectful in that way.

Ann Rule always delivers

The performance was a bit irritating in that the reader mispronounced cities very familiar to Oregonians. Anne Rule being from the Northwest knows it’s simply called I-5. Never “THE” I-5. And Eugene is pronounced “ugene” not “U-gene.” And the way she pronounced Chemawa I didn’t even know what she was saying. And last Aloha is not a Hawaiian word. It’s pronounced A-low-aw.

I realize this is nit-picking but it was annoying.

Very well written.

the reading is well done. the writing is straight facts and not the author in love with her subject

very well done

Took me a few minutes to get into the book but Once I did I couldn’t stop listening. Just the way she describes the killer and how his past life made him more real as well as the victims. Great book.

Interesting until the last minute

my only complaint about this book is the narator, when she mimics female voices. no matter there age she sounds like she is mimicking an 8 year old. kinnda throws the story, makes you forget who's story she is telling.but other than than it's a great listen

great book very insightful

Ann Rule made a story I already knew very intuitive and suspenseful. great riding! Narration was great as well. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and looking for more Ann Rule books to read

impecably well written and spoken/read aloud by narrator. It was a very interesting book. I loved the connection with Dianne Downs and Woodfeild and they both used one another.

couldn't put the book down.

Unexpectedly one of the best serial killer books I have listened to. Randal woodfield was a sick sick man. Enjoy.

FANTASTIC

Unfortunately a great story was overshadowed by an oddly performed audio. The voices of the females were portrayed as helpless women. It was extremely distracting and made it difficult to follow the story line.

Underwhelming audio performance

Well written and to the point without ever being gratuitous. Just the facts, ma’am. If you like true crime and like hearing about how human monsters are brought down, I do recommend this one.

Solid
