The Pact is Over. And the lies keep building.

Hunter

The Pact is over. I’m going to make Mila mine. She will know how much I love her. Everyday.

Jace

I predicted this when I was ten. Mila Hart destroyed everything, but I will get it all back, anyway I can.

Roman

I couldn’t protect her. I almost lost her. I will never be the man she needs.

Mila

Everything’s changed, but I will do anything for them. I will lie to protect the ones I love.

I didn’t think I’d like this story. I thought it would be something for a 13 year old, but it’s actually really good! Hunter has all of my feels! He’s always looking out for the people he loves ♥️
Urr to Jace though! I’m glad there wasn’t much from him in this book since he’s been a turd this round. Roman just needs some love, like real love. Poor guy. I hope we don’t have to wait too long for book 3.

Belle Harper's "The Lie" is a thrilling continuation that kept me on the edge of my seat. The plot is full of twists and turns that kept me guessing, and I loved every moment with Mila, Roman, Jace, and Hunter. The narrators did an outstanding job, capturing the essence of the characters and the depth of their emotions. This book is an excellent addition to the series, and I highly recommend it.

characters have the ability to become more defined, ... idk, just felt like pacing and ignored opportunities made it muddled down.

didn't love but has potential

Having a FMC who is hot for literally every single guy she meets cheapens the supposed "love" she feels for the MMCs. Supposedly, what they have is "special", but when you feel a "connection" and "butterflies" for literally every guy you interact with, it just comes across as shallow, selfish, and fickle. She's not in love, she's just horny for everyone. She said she can't choose amongst her friends, but it's not just them. It sounds like she would be banging her way through the whole town if she had her way. If one of the guys was constantly ogling and panting after every single girl in the story, he would be a jerk and a pig. Well, so is she. It feels like the author really just wanted to write straight smut/ erotica, but wanted to pretend it's more than that.
*spoiler alert *
The other big problem is with Jace. I don't mind that he made a big mistake he'll have to make up for, but I have the feeling the author is going to make the characters focus on him getting a BJ from the other girl as the major issue, rather than the fact he literally did not care that Mila nearly died and spent a week in a medically induced coma. He didn't know if she would ever wake up, while he was out happily partying with the girl who bullied her AND his brother. The BJ was bad, sure, but how do you come back from that complete lack of care after a near death experience? As I said...a frustrating read. Maybe it will get better, but I'm not holding out much hope.
*edit*
I just finished the book, and frankly, the way that Jace was forgiven for acting like a complete and total a$$hole through the whole book with absolutely no effort or attempt at redemption just made me mad. Nothing but a pathetic, "oops, sorry," and all is forgiven? What a lazy crock.

Frustrating to read

So I enjoyed the fluff that was book one for what it is and went into book 2 with hopes of more fluffy enjoyment. BUT book 2 goes hard and heavy on organized crime involvement with the characters. The author chose to set this in a high school setting with 16yos. These are minors in a relatively rural setting. These are not hard youth with guns or grew up in a crime family plot, etc. I get this is fun fluff but then set in college, not 16yo with little to no means being shaken down by the Mob. Frustrated by the turn of the story, there are so many other options.
