Acerca de esta escucha

Transported two thousand years into the past, readers are introduced to Antipas, a Roman civic leader who has encountered the writings of the biblical author Luke. Luke's writings spark Antipas's interest, and a correspondence transpires between them. As the two delve deeply into each other's lives, Antipas begins to see things in fresh ways, causing him to rethink the values upon which his life had been founded. In due course, a gladiatorial contest in Pergamum forces difficult decisions on both the Christians in that city and on Antipas himself.

Really enjoyed the method of storytelling through letters. Loved how the witness of Luke was both bold and understanding.

Interesting dialogue

This historical fiction piece is a very well crafted and deeply moving work. It seems clear that an overwhelming amount of research went in to grounding this work within its historical context. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

After visiting these areas recently, this story came alive in many ways. The character development/ transformation and surprising ending rings true to the influence God can have on one's life.

I love this book and am very thankful my professor at college recommended it to me. I believe God opened my eyes on some things. Praise God!

Great Book

While this is fiction, the dialogue gave very interesting insights into what the early church experienced as they worked to reconcile the teaching of Jesus in an honor-shame culture. It was interesting and very well done.

Longenecker has done a fantastic job of capturing the world in which the New Testament was written, giving strength to followers of Jesus Christ who read it today. What an edifying, Christ-exalting read.

A wonderful read

Wow, this was an amazing experience! I was enlightened, gripped, and moved as I read the fictional story of a Roman nobleman who died for his faith in Jesus Christ. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting a better understanding of the courage required to become a follower of Christ in the period when the Imperial Cult of Caesar was being promoted as a way to unify the far flung Empire of Rome. Great insights into the mind of a Roman citizen considering the claims of Christ.

Tremendous Recreation of Life in 1st Century Rome

I love how the 1st century worldview of the New Testament is presented in a narrarive recreation. It gives me a glimpse and insight of the early christians.

Amazing Window to the First Century

The Lost Letters of Pergamum is presented as a collection of found letters between Antipose (I listened to the audiobook so forgive my spelling) and Luke. They lay out the Roman benefactors introduction to the life of Jesus through Luke’s gospel, and help to explore the world soon after the death of Jesus. Historical details and truths pepper the story wonderfully and help ground the fiction in the world as it was.

A great historical Christian fiction

I loved the reality and comparison to modern western dilemmas of racial prejudice and social justice. I enjoyed most the truth seeking aspect of Antipas. May I be as strong and forthright in my own pursuit of truth.

The journey of belief
