Acerca de esta escucha

When young Josiah Penn Stockbridge accepts the position as aide-de-camp to George Washington at the beginning of the Revolutionary War, he thinks only of the glory and romance of battle. He is unprepared for the reality of America's bloody fight for independence. The Continental Army is starving, underpaid, and dangerously close to mutiny, and Washington fights not just to defeat the British but to maintain order and morale among his own men.

As anonymous letters by officers calling for revolt circulate through camp in Newburgh, New York, Washington must make a choice: preserve the young republic by keeping civilian control of the military, or reshape the new government by standing in solidarity with his troops and assuming greater power for himself.

During one fateful week in American history, Josiah will watch a conflicted general become a legend and will discover for himself that the greatest struggles of war are those within the hearts and minds of fallible men.

The main character Josiah, is a made up character. However the event is real and it really is full of interesting tid bits in the history of George Washington during the Revolutionary War. There are 2 appendixes that also supply historical documentation that are fun to listen to

a fun listen over a real event

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and have a greater respect for George Washington for his humanity and his role in the American Revolution! May we continue to be vigilante to not only praise one for what they have done but also what they haven’t to live a life with honor and integrity!

WOW!!! Well read and well researched!

Enjoyable perspective from a fictional administrative aid's point of view backed by well researched data. I enjoyed the epilogue as much as the story.

Interesting angle on Washington

This book is written from the point of view of one of General Washington's Aids to was with him through out the War of Independence. Near the end after the Battle of Yorktown his Army had a number of valid issues with Congress, General Washington stepped in and re-directed them to the good of the country. It was at this meeting with his officers he could have taken the crown and this army would have followed.

It comes down to one speech to his officers

The story was based on a very narrow piece of history. The book is good for history buffs. The last 13 chapters were basically the "credits". The book was a bit of a dissapointment but the narration good.

Story over chapter 12

The narration was more than equal to the outstanding work of the author. A fair portrayal of the greatest leader in the history of the world.

Excellent Insight, derived from superior research.

I'm ashamed to admit I'm one of many Americans who have the felonious understand I bff that the end of the shooting war off the American Revolution occurred at Yorktown. Then came the Treaty of Paris with the Constitutional Conventions in the  interim.  I first learned of the Newburgh Conspiracy in 2008 during a college course on the  military history of the U.S. this novel gives not only a fictional-narrative account of the brooding mutiny of Washington's Army, but also a summation of this was Washi gtobs military career since Braddock's crushing defeat in  the French and Indian War up to the encampment at Newburgh,  NY.  Others have commented this reads like a history book than a novel.  I agree and that's a good Thing, and considering at yhe time this reviw is published this book only recently was published.  Other historical novels in yhe past have not had yhe same read as This, more novelization entertainment.  This is not an inyrinsically bad thing to have.  I advise all budding novelists  and historians to read this novel as an example of the ideal blend of styles.

a Novelization of the Newburgh Conspiracy
