This book hindered me from reading one book per week this year. I bought the book and I also listened to it on audio and still had to keep going back to certain parts of it. Every paragraph is densely packed with profundity. Excellent cultural and philosophical analyses!

this book has many many references and follows a detailed history that makes me as a reader want to have the print version of the book in front of me as I'm listening. this book is on the academic side it carefully lays out a detailed history and argument for the evolution of the psychological man that is present in our modern thinking today. The listener will come away with a basic understanding of how our modern view of self came to be over the last hundred
