Acerca de esta escucha

The Sane Society is a continuation and extension of the brilliant psychiatric concepts Erich Fromm first formulated in Escape from Freedom; it is also, in many ways, an answer to Freud’s Civilization and its Discontents. Fromm examines man’s escape into over conformity and the danger of robotism in contemporary industrial society: Modern humanity has, he maintains, been alienated from the world of their own creation. Here Fromm offers a complete and systematic exploration of his “humanistic psychoanalysis.” In so doing, he counters the profound pessimism for our future that Freud expressed and sets forth the goals of a society in which the emphasis is on each person and on the social measures designed to further function as a responsible individual.

A stimulating read which seems more relevant today than in its time. A brilliant analysis of the human experience in modern society. Can't help but wonder what Fromm would think of our post-modern, selfish culture.

Stimulating and insightful

This is one of the best books I have ever read. The sheer scope of such work is breathtaking. the narrator did a masterful job of bringing this dense comprehensive text and analysis and assessment of our society to life. This one paragraph really stood out to me and summarised Exactly where we’re at.

“In the 19 century, the problem was God is dead in the 20th century the problem is that man is dead. In a 19 century inhumanity meant cruelty. In the 20th century, it means schizoid alienation The danger of the past was that men became slaves. The danger of the future is that men may become robots.
True enough robots do not rebel but we will eventually turn into golems and destroy our worlds from boredom. Our threats are robots and war. What is the solution? to get out of this rut and give birth a new realization for humanity.”

This book was written over 70 years ago, yet every word and idea remains incredibly accurate and relevant for our society. Everyone should read this book to understand its insightful analysis of the changes we need to make. Thanks to thinkers like Eric, who have the courage to scrutinize society and challenge governments, industry, and business for our own salvation

Incredible stark reminder of where we’re headed

Honestly, this book should be required for any aspiring psychologist, theologian, socialist, capitalist, or any person who strives for a better future for humanity. Written in 1955, it is as relevant today in the 21st century as when it was first published.

A Total Must
