This novella-length story doesn't chronologically follow the other stories in the series but instead fills in some of the background mentioned in previous books. It's a neat storytelling device. I didn't feel like I was missing something when I read the previous stories, but really enjoyed getting to dig a bit deeper in the family history. As in the other books, historical bits and pieces were sprinkled in to add dimension and color.

The narrator carried four main characters and numerous side characters well.

There were a few editing glitches but not enough to take off a full star.
