A Space Marine anthology

The successor Chapters of the Space Marines number in the hundreds, founded to fight for the survival of the Imperium. Across 13 short stories by 10 different authors, discover the history, customs and stories of 12 different successor Chapters, from famed warriors to unsung heroes.

Listen to it because

Discover successor Chapters new and old within this anthology of short stories by some of Black Library's premier authors.

Description

The Space Marine Legions of old are dead, torn asunder in the wake of the Horus Heresy. In their place have risen a thousand Chapters, each unique, each carrying the legacy of their founders across the countless battlefields of the Imperium.

The Flesh Tearers spill blood in a war of brutal attrition.

The Emperor's Spears keep a tireless watch where their brothers have fallen.

The Consecrators search the dark places for relics, artefacts of power from the noble past.

The Crimson Fists vow, with bloodied hands, to become Dorn's glorious vanguard once more.

These are the Imperium's bulwark against terror, the Emperor's Angels of Death. Forged from the genetic material of the demigod Primarchs, it is by the might of these Adeptus Astartes that the growing darkness of the galaxy is held at bay - for the Space Marines know no fear.

Straightforward and entertaining… and you learn a bit about successor chapters… obviously. Worth checking out.

Badass Book

A mix of good, great and lesser stories. my favourites are McNeill's, Haley's and Fehevari's stories.

Worth it for Fehevari's story

Hear about the lesser known defenders of the Imperium and realize that you too can dream up a your own richly detailed and lovingly crafted chapter of psychotic murderous man children (said with 100% sincere love and affection)

Lots of fun

Featured a bunch of interesting chapters, and made me want to build and paint a marine from all of them.

Great range of stories and performances

There is enough good stuff in this compilation to make it well worth a credit. Especially if you follow any of the authors or storylines and characters present within.

Some very good stories in here

Overall the stories are good to great. However I understand that women are just as good as men and that no one is allowed to say different but having a woman voice acting as a man is just bad. It takes you out of the story and frankly makes it unlistenable. It’s beyond cringe. Just have guys do the male parts and have the girls to the female parts. Honestly I doubt I’ll ever listen to this again.

Space marine stories moving forward not 10k in the past

For one I HATE when they get Edoardo to write Carcharodons. He either doesn’t get them at all or he’s super heavy-handed with symbolism and ocean theme. Same with Silent Hunter (and he is terrible with Dark Eldar). Not to mention repetitive af with certain adjectives.

Also I thought this book was mostly about Primaris joining, but a quarter of these stories don’t carry that theme at all

Just odd

This is by far the worst BL book I have listened to thus far. Some 40k fanfic is better.

Reads like bad fanfic

One thing to note is that while these short stories are all about successor chapters, a large amount of them are more about primaris marines integrating with these chapters or the other aspects of integrating with parent chapters. The books frankly tend to not have enough in them that is about the succesor chapters and more talk about differences between firstborn and primaris marines.

That said, there still are quite a few great stories in here, the rest are good enough and theres only like, 2 that i really didnt enjoy. For black library compilations, i'd say its batting above average. The narrators are all pretty good, though i really disliked richard reeds work in this one.

Overall decent, with some standouts.
