Acerca de esta escucha

Dr. Duane Lakin is a psychologist and business consultant. A graduate of the University of Minnesota, Duane has over thirty years of experience serving business leaders as an industrial psychologist. Prior to that, he was a clinical psychologist and school consultant.

In talking with business people from many industries, he realized that the skills used to gain rapport and influence people in the practice of applied psychology are very similar to those skills needed to sell yourself and be persuasive in business. As a result, he has dedicated himself to refining and teaching the practical applications of NLP (neurolinguistic programming) to sales and management professionals.

Since the mid-1980s, he has been looking at ways to make NLP useful to sales people. Sales representatives have told him clearly that they are not interested in touchy-feely theories or complex analytical approaches to selling. Having worked for three decades in the business arena as a contributor to the hiring process for sales people, managers, and executives, he has seen ample proof that selling is hard enough without making it more difficult.

At the same time, he has discovered that few sales people are trained in how to sell themselves and how to use language to increase their effectiveness. As a result, he has seen remarkable sales increases resulting from brief sales-training workshop experiences.

I don't know why they were skipped. But otherwise it was great. I got the Audible copy and went through it once and I felt it was great but I felt I missed some of the finer points near the end. I am definitely a visual learner, so I thought it would help me to read the book as I listened to the audible. I bought the book and read along. That's why I noticed the skipped pages, otherwise you would never know. I felt the second pass really nailed it down for me. Just the same, I think this is one you have to hear and read along with many times to really internalize because you have to make this information a part of yourself to the point that when you talk to someone it naturally spews forth. But I really believe this will make a huge difference for anyone in sales or marketing. I'm in marketing and have had a lifetime of sales experience as well. I wish I had this training when I was young. But it was not known. It will also help the savvy consumer to defend themselves from predatory sales and marketing people that unlike me and my assiciates, do not have your best interests in mind. There are people like me who will only try to sell something to someone when it is in their own best interest, but we need materials like this to help us to get the prospects to even give us the time of day, and then their are predators who will shove their products down everyone's throats.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Unfair Advantage to be better than the print version?

As an auditory learner, yes (even though I've not read the print version).

What other book might you compare The Unfair Advantage to and why?

None come to mind but some NLP books I've read in the past are similar in content but this has a broader business applicable focus

Have you listened to any of Duane Lakin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, so not applicable.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was an informative and interesting "listen," and I've listened to it a couple of times already. I'd advise anyone who buys this to do the same in order to get a good feel for how it is personally applicable to them.

Any additional comments?

Duane delivered what he promised.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Not even done with the book and wanted to say lots of practical techniques and presentations given by author. Another NLP book was a joke vs this

well done, lots of applications

What made the experience of listening to The Unfair Advantage the most enjoyable?

The skill sets taught are true game changers. If you want something new and effective, get this book, especially if you use the phone, this section is worth the whole investment. My experience, you should get this book now.

What did you like best about this story?

How you can create a great phone script and understanding the principles of why it works.

Have you listened to any of Duane Lakin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

How you'll feel in control when prospecting, writing letters and emails to anyone you wish to persuade.

Any additional comments?

This is one of the best books I have ever read and actually put to use in my career. I would have paid 100 times more to get my hands on this masterpiece, especially considering what I know now.

Why You May Want This Book...

Only gripe is the music is terrible. Narration is kind of robotic. Great intro to NLP in a selling environment.

Great tactics. Will Relisten to again but

Really enjoyed this but several times the audio cut out mid sentence and then skipped ahead. Not sure what I missed.

I really enjoyed this book. Initially i was concerned on the first chapter as it was sounding like there was to be no content but then it took off and provided so much rich detail. The examples provided were excellent and by the end I felt that I have gained a great insite into human interaction and selling.

Very usefully for everyone, not only business
