Acerca de esta escucha

It is New York, 1904, and Dulcy Remfrey, despite an idiosyncratic, traveling childhood, faces the predictable life of a woman of the time. But all that changes when her eccentric father returns from his expedition to Africa without any of the proceeds from the sale of a gold mine. It seems he's lost his mind along with the money, and Dulcy's obsessive ex-fiancé (and her father's business partner) insists she come to Seattle to decipher her father's cryptic notebooks, which may hold clues to the missing funds. When her father dies unexpectedly, taking the truth with him, Dulcy looks at her future, finds it unbearable, and somewhere in the northern Rockies, disappears from the train bringing her father's body home.

Is it possible to disappear from your old life and create another? Dulcy travels the West, reading stories about her own death, and finds a small Montana town where she's reborn as Mrs. Nash, a wealthy young widow, free from the burden of family. But her old life won't let go so easily, and soon her ex-fiancé is on her trail, threatening the new life she is so eager to create.

The Widow Nash is a riveting narrative, filled with a colorful cast of characters, timeless themes, and great set pieces - Europe in summer, New York in fall, Africa in winter, and the lively, unforgettable town of Livingston, Montana. This is a book that surprises with its twists and turns, ribald sensibility, and rich historical details. And in Dulcy, Jamie Harrison has created an indelible heroine sure to capture the hearts of listeners everywhere.

I was never into history growing up and therefore amazed by history today . The lifestyle of the rich in the 1900's was not any different than today. Travel, sex, disease, medicine, food and Bad men LoL. Made me reflect on the bible, where it says,"there's nothing new under the sun" Loved this book

Early 1900s

I was looking forward to this story, it sounded like a great one when I was reading the summary of the story.
I was really having trouble staying with the story, identifying with and who the characters were. The story just keeps jumping back and forth, keeps getting back into her father’s story and the past. The storyline of Mrs. Nash/Dulcy and her going forward and finding out what happened to the missing money doesn’t get going without any intrusion of long diatribes about her father’s life until the last 2 hrs of this audible story! It really was hard to follow, I still don’t really know who was married to who, who was related to who, who worked for who , it just was very confusing. If I had been reading it, I would have had to look back at it again and again and then write down who was who.

Hard to follow, over the River and thru the woods

This is now one of my favorite novels. Every character is monumentally flawed and the heroine is so initially miserable but relatable. Her story is a reminder that a horrible past does not make a life. We're all capable of shifts in thinking and of change.

This book is like a historical steward of women in the late 1800's to early 1900's who were not born into wealth. Our heroine is chosen for her intellectual capabilities to be her father's traveling companion, nurse, and secretary instead of attending college. Her father is fond of studying catastrophic events, boisterous women, alcohol, and drugs.

The Audible rendition is full of scenes so visually and psychologically stimulating that it was troubling to stop and sleep. The Audible narration is perfect in my opinion. Every chapter is surprising including the last. I relished every syllable.

Very Well Written and So Enjoyable!

An excellent read. Not what you think it might be, but extremely interesting and really wanted it to continue.

Amazing book

A story that covers a relatively short amount of time but that ranges through hundreds of years and all over the world. A fascinating look at the world at the end of the 19th century and into the 20th, with its huge cultural and social changes but where people routinely suffered and died of ailments we hardly see anymore and can easily treat. Best of all it's a story of Dulcie, without histrionics, taking her life into her own hands.

Gripping story. I couldn't stop listening.

I LOVED this engulfing, lavish novel. Very well drawn complex characters. Suspenseful, Sensual . Erotic.

Captivating Romantic Historical Page-turner

An excellent performance of a well written story. I enjoyed the strong heroine. At times there felt like a few too many odd characters but isn't that what you found in the pioneers willing to strike out in newer frontiers?
All in all I highly recommend.

Engaging and satisfying

The bombastic foul language adds nothing to this novel. It’s extreme language and will keep me from recommending it to anyone. The story itself is interesting with notable lags in the sub-plots.

extreme foul language

I wanted to like this book more than I actually did. Although the writing was wonderfully detailed, it tended to lose the momentum of the plot between the descriptions of characters and places.

Extremely detailed - beautifully written

I struggled to get into this one at the beginning but as it went on it picked up and I ended up loving it and wishing it hadn't ended.

Great read
