Acerca de esta escucha

More than half a century since Roswell, UFOs have been making headlines once again. On December 17, 2017, the New York Times ran a front-page story about an approximately five-year Pentagon program called the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program. The article hinted, and its sources clearly said in subsequent television interviews, that some of the ships in question couldn't be linked to any country. The implication, of course, was that they might be linked to other solar systems.

The UFO community - those who had been thinking about, seeing, and analyzing supposed flying saucers (or triangles or chevrons) for years - was surprisingly skeptical of the revelation. Their incredulity and doubt rippled across the internet. Many of the people most invested in UFO reality weren't really buying it. And as Sarah Scoles did her own digging, she ventured to dark, conspiracy-filled corners of the internet, to a former paranormal research center in Utah, and to the hallways of the Pentagon.

In They Are Already Here we meet the bigwigs, the scrappy upstarts, the field investigators, the rational people, and the unhinged kooks of this sprawling community. How do they interact with each other? How do they interact with "anomalous phenomena"? And how do they (as any group must) reflect the politics and culture of the larger world around them?

Very well researched and interesting, great insights into not just UFOs but the community that has grown up around the phenomenon. This book is very helpful in understanding the intentions and thought processes of the various players in that community. This is very important as information about UFOs is filtered through those players. So it is critical to understand a little bit about how they do their work and how they draw their conclusions. As Sarah uncovers their methods very wildly, some are very rigorous and some are, well, not. very interesting read.

The narration is excellent and very professional. it is very easy to listen to.

Highly recommended.

V insightful about both UFOs and the UFO community

Highly recommend to anyone who wants to know the story behind the story of UFOs.

very informative on root of UFO phenomenon

The performer is incredibly distracting, almost jarring to listen to. The spoken word does not sound organic/fluid in the least and makes this a VERY difficult listen. Im considering just getting the book because I can’t finish this. If you enjoy listening to robots that occupy the vocal range of the uncanny valley this one is for you!

The story is solid, the performer is distracting

I think this is read by a robot. It’s halting and awkward an basically unlistenable.

This robot sucks at reading.

the title is significantly misleading. the narrator is at least very easy to listen to.

mediocre

If you are open minded about UAP send this to the toilet. She thinks open mindedness is foolishness.

Not what you think it is

I thought this was about aliens. It’s the antithesis. There is so much evidence for ET life.

I want to believe!

While I do not like writing critical reviews, I was extremely disappointed with the lack of research for this book. The author is a great writer, but the size and number of gaps are too huge to list, leaving me to wonder if she went after the more unbelievable accounts and purposefully ignoring the approach of say Leslie’s Kean’s book. I am a skeptic, and even I found this to be written by someone out to prove what she believed to be true, instead of objective research.

Where is the rest of the research?

Honestly I haven't finished it but this book is rude about and dismissive of decades of serious research and experiences. It proposes a tidy little vision of UFOs as something we all just want to exist but couldn't possibly be real. I'll force myself to play it all, but this is not a serious work.

Outdated Unconvincing Debunking
