Acerca de esta escucha

In "The Eternal Return of Fascism", Rob Riemen explores the theoretical weakness of fascism, which depends on a politics of resentment, the incitement of anger and fear, xenophobia, the need for scapegoats, and its hatred of the life of the mind. He draws on history and philosophy as well as the essays and novels of Thomas Mann and Albert Camus to explain the global resurgence of fascism, often disguised by its false promises of ushering in freedom and greatness.

Riemen's own response to what he sees as the spiritual crisis of our age is articulated in "The Return of Europa", a moving story about the meaning of European humanism with its universal values of truth, beauty, justice, and love for life - values that are the origin and basis of a democratic civilization.

To Fight Against This Age is as timely as it is timeless, to be heard by those who want to understand and change the world in which they live.

interesting reflection on the problem with group-think & instrumental-rationality. focusing largely on_the fact/value distinction. enjoy!

on the importance of "philosophy" for modernity

I recommend being patient with this book.it seems to go off course at times, but comes together. Also it’s not the political answer we might be looking for, but a more fundamental one. We need to appreciate and teach philosophy and culture as way to become better citizens. I just don’t know how we get there in time.
Also, his “story “ is very euro-centrist of course. But that is his focus and responsibility as a European.
I would like to see some of these ideas explored through other cultures, but that is another book.

Not expected but needed

Rob Riemen has given the world an important timely message in this warning about the reprise of fascist (and neo-nazi) ideology and agitation in many historically democratic countries, including those in Europe, e.g. Holland, Austria, The UK, as well as the United States (with the "election" of Trump.) One reason for this, he believes, is pure ignorance...of history and cultural development...People don't Read anymore...at least they don't read classical literature or quality history. The PROBLEM with this audio-book is the narration...listen to the audible sample if you want to hear for yourself. I hope audible.com will re-record this, as it is difficult to listen to in its current form. If you can't deal with the current narration, consider buying the "hard-copy" book. Take Care!

A Timely Message Read Poorly!

The author uses cultural elitist fascism to try to stem racist fascism. All the while trashing the people tasked with earning the money to support art…and the letter writers.

Artsy Hate Mongering?
