“I - I can’t be gay. I don’t know how.”

Ace Payne grew up repressed. It’s no secret to him. His parents don’t like people who are "different" - and being gay certainly doesn’t fit their narrow view of the world. He holds himself back from finding love as a response to their toxic voices ringing in his ears, but when he’s outed to the Denver PD, his life in the closet quickly turns unbearable. The solution? A work transfer.

“We can have each other for the night, or the week, or the month - but long term? No. I don’t do relationships.”

Detective Ryder Mueller has always been open about his love for other men. A consummate jokester and free spirit, this "playboy" is all about making others happy. But when he’s assigned to show Ace the ropes, he quickly finds himself torn between falling love...or guarding his heart.

They build them big in the small town of Harlan, Colorado - where the winters are beautiful and the mountain men are gorgeous. Listen along as we join them in Harlan, where the pain of the past drips away as these sexy, rugged mountain men find their true loves and embrace a lifestyle of happily ever afters. This audiobook and every other audio book in the For You series can be listened to in any order.

Try For you by J.P. Oliver is book two if the For You series. As I've mentioned before, I absolutely adore the For You series. They're short, sweet, emotional and just about the right amount of drama (LOL). In Try For You introduces a newbie, Ace Payne, in the small town of Harlan, Colorado. If there's one thing you need to know about Ace, it's that he's grown up in a house with parents that were the opposite of understanding and nurturing, nope. They were the one's who did not take a liking to people who were 'different'. So Ace grew up super repressed (and gay) and of course, had to hold himself back from finding love as a response to their toxic voices ringing in his ears. He's kept that part hidden for so long because well he believes that he can't be gay but when he’s outed to the Denver PD, his life in the closet quickly turns unbearable and too much. His only solution is a work transfer...to Harlan. Enter our favorite Harlan Detective and hottie/playboy, Ryder Mueller. Ryder is totally opposite to Ace. He's confident in his own skin, has always been open about his love for other men, and doesn't do long term but he'll be you fun ride. He's been assigned to show Ace the ropes, but he quickly finds himself torn between falling in love or guarding his heart!

I love and enjoy stories when the characters who don't give their hearts easily, start to trust and when there's characters who are struggling to accept themselves but are willing to take a chance (cliche I know but still) because the emotions that go into exploring and telling their story is so captivating that I never tire from them. As always, Guillaume Dubois did a beautiful job at narrating, you can tell he's engaged and invested in the telling of this story. Five stars for Try For You by J. P. Oliver. Happy listening all!

I liked this audible book better than the first one the narrator for this book made all the difference to this story. Ryder is expecting a new off sider he’s a transfer in, and one look at his new partner and well lets just say he knows things are going to be interesting. Ace on the other hand Ryder’s new partner is a bit of a loner doesn’t speak much and well he’s unsure about a lot of things one of those being could he gay. But due to brainwashing parents he’s got no idea. The book is a great listen and many things get worked out most if not all for the better.

This is the second book in the For You Series with developed characters. Ace is stoic and at first is unsure on if he can be himself, while Ryder is a charming free spirit. A little bit of opposites attracts; while complementing each other. Both men decided to open up and show their real selves to open up to the possibility of love. The narration was executed excellently. I can't wait for the next book to come out.

Loved it

We get Ace and Ryder's story in this book. Ryder with his happy go lucky personality and Ace with his repressed homosexuality. This was a great read. Ace had to come to terms with the fact that he was gay while Ryder had to let himself actually fall in love with a person. Always the playboy.

Was such a great opposites attract story. Guillaume Dubois' narration was great.

I think I have said this in another review, J. P. Oliver is fast becoming one of my favorite authors.

A wonderful story of a closeted by force gay man, Ace, and his new police partner, Ryder, finding out each other’s problems and phobias. This story digs into the psyches of each man and tells how they were reared and formed, one with loving, nurturing mother and the other with Bible strict parents. They find themselves learning how to be themselves and trying to find a relationship that will work.

I loved the way the narrator changed his voice for the different characters and made the story easier to follow.

A ROUSING STORY OF TWO SEPARATE UPBRINGINGS

I loved this story for several reasons. As in most of the LGBTQ themed books there is mention of homophobic attitudes that cause one of the characters to leave their home and/or job. Or telling his parents he is gay and he is disowned. This is the catalyst for the change of towns, change of job, AND meeting your soulmate.

Ryder was a playboy, never wanting to be tied down. Ace was the new Detective that had a hard time accepting himself as a gay man. Then we meet Nori, Rider's mother who reads auras, palms, and tea leaves. She warns both men that they must talk and not let the lust they feel define their relationship.

Through ups and downs they realize what they mean to each other. The rest of the story with all the details is a wonderful journey for the reader to take! ENJOY!

No longer a Playboy!

Entertaining 'opposites attract' story of a playboy who finds his "one" in his not out work partner. Story flowed along nicely with good pacing and entertaining characters. Ryder's mom is a hoot!

Guillaume Dubois did a great job bringing life and emotion to the characters.

I would happily listen to this one again.

I enjoyed this story much better than the first in the series. It felt a little more realistic. I wasn't a fan of the narrator but that did not detract too much from the story. I loved how both main characters opened their hearts up to give their relationship a try. It was a sweet story and I look forward to the next in the series.

Love the Harlan guys!

with a enemies to friends to lovers feel, opposites attract. I like the comfort and patience and acceptance of each of them made for a sweet story. Dubois did ok with this narration not the worst I've heard but not great either.

Nice continuation
