Acerca de esta escucha

New York Times best-selling author Mary Jo Putney weaves a romantic tale into a courtroom thriller, prompting Booklist to hail, “Move over John Grisham.”

High-powered corporate attorney Val Covington knows she should avoid mysterious guys like Rob Smith. But when Rob helps her in a frantic race against the clock to save a man wrongfully sent to death row, Val unearths long-buried secrets - and discovers an unexpected passion.

Many intelligent, successful adults have some, or a lot of, emotional baggage. Growth and maturity means finding successful ways to cope with old hurts and disappointments. Putney doesn't write Pollyanna kind of stories, but of real ways that smart people learn to rise above troubles in their past.

The story was good enough to struggle through a few chapters, but the mouth noises and breathing of the reader were too much. I would think this could be fixed with a re-edit, but as it is it's unlistenable for me.

Possible Spoilers:
Books 2 & 3 are my favorites of the series. But this one hooked me on the secondary characters with Kendra & Daniel, even Lissy, over Val and Rob. The miscarriage of justice was incredibly wrenching. If any of the statistics quoted are still valid today, it’s a chilling indictment of our legal system. No matter how you spin it, those with money to pay for the best legal representation are likely to get charges dropped. Those with the least funds get public defenders. Anyone falling in between financially is in the worst position.
The backstory for Rob vs what he’s doing now didn’t make sense. I liked Val initially in this story. I liked that she was there for Raine in the previous book. I stopped liking her with the non-or-off relationship with Rob.
Jenner has a pleasant enough voice but there’s little character differentiation.

Also a bit dated

Lack of pauses between chapters rather disconcerting. Great narration otherwise. Some interesting views on death penalty. Unusual philosophizing for the genre

What disappointed you about Twist of Fate?

I can't really judge the story because I could not listen to the narrator. He was awful. He sounded 108 and I could hear him do this strange licking/clicking sound. I really tried to ignore it, but I just couldn't. I urge anyone thinking of buy the book to listen to the sample.
