Acerca de esta escucha

From popular content creator Kelsey Impicciche, Voice of the Ocean follows a daring young siren who defies her people to save a human prince, unearthing ancient magic and igniting a dangerous romance amid treacherous waters.

As the youngest daughter of the siren queen, Celeste’s life is tightly controlled. Desperate to prove her worth and escape her destiny—trapped in the palace as a royal figurehead—she intends to join the Chorus, an elite group of siren warriors. With the final test on the horizon, Celeste feels the pressure to finally gain control over her temperamental Song—a magic gifted by the Goddess herself. But when Celeste encounters a seemingly harmless ship in Staria’s waters, helmed by the intriguing Prince Raiden Sharp, her path veers toward forbidden waters.

Believing the handsome sailor to be innocent of any wrongdoing, Celeste defies siren law to save Raiden’s life—despite knowing he is the son of a king who has murdered many of her kindred. The penalty for Celeste’s betrayal should be death, but the queen offers her an alternative: right her wrong by assassinating the prince. Determined to first discover the truth behind the prince’s clandestine mission, Celeste agrees to become human.

But the human world is nothing like she expected, nor is the prince the charming and noble man she assumed him to be. Disguised among Raiden’s ragtag crew, she searches for the truth. But as Celeste finds her place aboard the ship, friendships—and attraction—begin to grow. Will Celeste be able to do what must be done? Or will her choices unravel a kingdom, devastating sirens and humans alike?

Starts a little slow due to intense character building, then the action starts. This is one of those books you can't wait to get back to. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next one.

Great characters, Fantastic Book

I knew reading a recently released book was dangerous. I usually refuse to watch or read anything with a cliff hanger if the next episode/movie/book is already released. I couldn't fin anywhere saying that a 2nd book was even being written so i thought i would be safe. Now what? It feels like you just paused my breathing. This book was so good that I am now devestated that it is over.

For those like me who avoid cliffhanger to be continued stuff, here is your warning. You are welcome.
If you wanna support Kelsey and read it anyway right now, just prepare yourself.

Brutal Cliff Hanger. I need more or i might die.

Sirens, pirates, a classic story adaptation like no other. This story drew me in from the start and only got better. So many twists paired with wonderful character building, and ultimately, Kelsey created a crew I WANT to know more about and a story I need to know how it ends. The only thing I’m unhappy about is having to wait for the next book!

Excellent twist on a classic

The world building was detailed, the story had you wondering what will happen next, and the cliffhanger left me excited for the next installment.

Beautifully Written and Leaves You Wanting More

Sirens and pirates where the FMC is powerful and emotional at the same time. A nice change from the stoic bad asses in lots of other fantasy romance.

Soft Girlies Unite

Ive read/listened to a few other siren/mermaid books in my years. none quite scratched the itch the way this one. did. I loved the little mermaid references. The writing was very enjoyable. The characters were true to their nature. I flew three this book like an addiction! There is no spicy scene but definitely romantic tension. There was a couple dynamic that I thought was unnecessary and had too much screen time for me. other than that I would highly recommend this book!

ive been looking for a siren/mermaid story for sometime.

While I enjoy Kelsey giving lore to her Sims on her YouTube channel, I wasn’t sure how that would translate into a whole book.
I was glad to be surprised about how much I liked it!

Kelsey creates an interesting world under the sea that didn’t just copy everyone’s ideas about mermaids and makes Sirens her own. Calling a group of warriors a “Chorus” is a nice touch!

Not to mention the relationship between the male and female lead seemed to grow naturally, and wasn’t rushed. I like that they became friends before romantic feelings began.

Kelsey’s also not shy about including many same gender relationships- which so far haven’t died. This world seems to be one that has same gender relationships as common- I think the main couple might be the only hetero ones!

I took a star off for the narrator because I felt like she could’ve emoted better in some scenes, and some characters sounded too alike. But overall I liked her performance.

I will warn that something happens that may trigger those sensitive about assault, and this book has loose ends that I’m hoping conclude in a second book. But I am looking forward to what Kelsey comes up with next!

The little mermaid with more lore

I have been a fan of Kelsey for a long time online and love her storytelling, but for some reason was still not quite sure what to expect. This book exceeded whatever my expectation had been. I LOVED the characters, the world building was beautiful and I hope to see Staria on the big screen one day, and the narrator is incredible too! Kelsey did a wonderful job making robust characters you love, and ones you love to hate. Being an emotional person, I really related to a lot of Celeste’s feelings and frustration with herself. The plot was more interesting than her description of “a retelling of the little mermaid”. Some of the action scenes were a bit hard to follow while listening (but this is likely a me thing), but I still found them exciting and could clearly picture so much of this book. I want to visit Staira so badly!!! And meet all the beautiful sirens! I especially love how the siren world is inherently feminine by default. It heightens the power of women & their emotions as well as other strengths, while showing the dichotomy of how emotions are frowned upon in siren society, and how women bottle up their emotions to be seen as strong or reliable. This theme is played on at just the right, relevant and appropriate times, while not harping on it too much, or in boring ways. The emotions Celeste fights are about her mess-ups, her family, her friends, her responsibilities, etc more so than they are just about whether or not she should/could be with a boy. THAT is what gives this book its strength. As a YA book, I hope young girls read this and can see themselves with the strength we see in Celeste, despite her “flaws”. Women have more character tropes than being boy crazy, and we need more of those examples. I anxiously await book two!!

I can’t finish this review without also giving props to the audiobook reader. She really brought the story to life and gave each character their own voice. Her accents are great, and her ability to bring each character’s personality to their voice made the book easier to follow. Her personal voice for the third person narration was also very clear, understandable, and a good pace. I can tell she loves telling stories!

Exceeded Expectations! Loved it.

Having followed Kelsey for years, and loving her storytelling, I came in with high expectations. Kelsey went above and beyond, All the charcters are multidimentional and serve a purpose. None of the plotpoints were expected and many twists where shocking. looking forward to book 2
