Acerca de esta escucha

Terry Buckler is an all-American boy from the Heartland who is selected for one of the most daring Special Operations missions in world history. See the 1970 Son Tay Raid through his eyes, with top secret planning by CIA, Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marine special warfare legends in secret locations both in the US and in Southeast Asia. Twists in the story will take the listener from Hanoi, some of the most highly-defended airspace in the world, to idyllic farmlands in America to a secret CIA compound to the East Room of the White House. Then the book lets 40 participants in the raid tell their most memorable moments in their own words.

Absolutely loved having multiple perspectives from multiple different roles. Incredible book! Is a must read!

Incredible book!

The story seemed stilted in certain ways to me though that could be a function of the narrator. His use of corny helicopter sounds and other unrefined background music was at times annoying.

Admiral McRaven's account in his special operations book was much better in my opinion.

Though the author's inclusion of other raiders' perspectives was good, hearing the same narrator's voice was part of the annoyance.

Disappointed

I love that this book is by an actual raider, providing first hand knowledge of how things transpired. I also love the annexes, which share the first hand experiences of raiders from the various elements, as well as all the various air components.

First Hand Knowledge

The account, background, detail and history of the raid was amazing and very well told by the author. My ONLY complaint about any of it was the sound effects and music sometimes overshadowing the narrators voice. I would HIGHLY recommend this book.

An amazing account of the heroism and sacrifice of our armed forces.

I really enjoyed this book. An extremely easy to read story told in a conversational manner. The chapters are short and easy to digest. Buckler deliverers a very personal and candid view of the mission and his life.

Intimate Telling of an Incredible Mission

The first part of the book is a narrative of the author’s life and of the Son Tay mission through his eyes. The second part consists of several appendices that are packed with information and personal recollections from the Green Berets, the pilots and aircrew of the various aircraft that participated in the raid, and of course from the POWs who were the focus of the raid. Pay as much attention to the appendices as the main narrative, they are full of interesting information and viewpoints.

Overall it is an interesting and comprehensive mosaic of information about the event that has left me much better informed about what happened. I bought the hard copy of the book as week to have access to the photos and maps referred to in the narrative.

I strongly recommend it to anyone interested in the Vietnam War, the military, hostage rescue operations, or general military history.

The reader did a good job of presenting the information in an enthusiastic and well-modulated style.

A fantastic living historical account of the raid.
