This was probably my favourite in the crestomanci series that I’ve read thus far. Gerard Doyle does excellent narration.

I love Diana Wynn’s Jones. I grew up reading every single one of her books. As an adult, I decided to reread them. While her story line is wonderful, her fat phobia was almost nauseating. I would never let my teen read this book. At one point, she goes on and on about a chubby girls body and how disgusting it is. In the book, a boy is sweet on the chubby girl. The author berates the boy, saying she can’t imagine why anyone would want to touch the fat (described much more intricately and rudely) on her body, let alone find it appealing.

Be aware. I wish this book could just be great, but the fat phobia is rampant and intense. Let’s do better for our kids than this. Let’s not give our daughters any more reason to hate their bodies. The media is already doing a great job of that, they don’t need our help.

I have enjoyed many of yourself his books. I can't tell if this one is not as good or if I am just getting bored by her style. However it just didn't keep my interest. It's in predictable.

What did you love best about Witch Week?

Diana Wynne Jones has been one of my favorite authors for over thirty years. I bought "A Tale Of Time City," when I was young and fell in love with her writing style immediately. She creates such a vivid world that holds it own life. Her characters in this book cover a full spectrum from nice to naughty, from mean to bullied and from popular to vilified.This story is based in England in the boarding school system of England. The characters are in a forced schooling system and Diana creates a dark unhappy image of that alternate world school system. The story builds including more and more characters bringing them together nicely for the conclusion of this wonderful story.There are a few weak spots in Gerard Doyle's reading style but as a whole this is a great book and a good choice. It's worth a listen and his great for young people age 12 and up.

What did you like best about this story?

The character development and twisty and turning plot. The integration of variety of sub-plots and characters makes me want to listen/read this story over and over again.

What does Gerard Doyle bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He is a pleasant reader, his pronunciation of certain words in the English, (not American language) make his reading easy and interesting to listen too.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This book is unabridged and may be too long for just one sitting unless you have a significant time to book listening. This is a great title to listen to when you're doing long range road trips though.

Any additional comments?

This is a great classic Diana Wynne Jones title. I read this book originally perhaps third in my quest to keep up with her work. It is one of the reasons I kept reading her work into adulthood.

Excellent young adult book that adults would like as well. For the first time, after seeing reviews that say if you like Harry Potter you will like this book, do I agree. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and wish more of Diana Wynne Jones' books were available in audio.

This book is full of twists and turns that make it a wonder to listen to. It is hilarious and read very well.

Read this years ago to my daughter, enjoy listening to it again now. I recommend all of Diana Wynn’s Jones. Books.

A Nice Story in the Christomanci Series

If you haven't read any previous Christomanci books the ending will seemingly come out of nowhere. Even if you have read several previous Christomani books, the solution to the main plot will still seem rather contrived. It also has several spirtual and psychological consequences that adults may find disturbing that are completly ignored in the book. These consequences may or may not occur to younger readers.

The production quality was overall quite good. The narrator had a very expressive and clear voice.
