Acerca de esta escucha

George Washington Sears (1821 - 1890) was a writer for Forest and Stream magazine, a poet and early conservationist. He was also a pioneer and advocate of ultralight camping.

At the age of 62, Sears completed a camping journey of nearly the almost 300 miles through the central Adirondacks in an ultralight canoe which he carried on his head between rivers. This wonderfully written text is ideal for those who love the outdoors. It is full of valuable tips on camping, fishing, hunting and more.

The story and information is great, and it's very interesting to hear how it was done back in the 1800s and how it can still apply today. The narrator, not so much. Awkward cadence and pauses, re-reading lines, forced strange inflection while reading sentences, it's unfortunate, but i would still recommend reading this for the interesting and entertaining information.

Great story, narrator not so much

I have had this paperback for longer than u would like to admit. I never got around to it. With the audio book version I finally did. IMHO, YOU need a paperback to get the most out of this material, but the audio allowed me to listen and drive, shower...

This is an old book. it tells of old ways.

Both this book and it's author are nothing short of legendary. Why the choice for this narrator was made is absolutely beyond me. The man sounds like a used car salesman that moonlights as a late night radio DJ. Apparently even the producers got sick of listening to his supermarket jingle style intonations because towards the end more and more bits of text are repeated. a real shame. I still enjoyed its content but man, this book deserves a do-over!

legume reads legend

It is interesting to hear the stories from Nessmuk as told with his own words. Some great ones and some that will make you raise an eyebrow. Also to hear some of the old camp recipes and opinions on shelters and life in the outdoors from back them. This is, after all, the first book on camping essentially.
However, as another reviewer has stated, the narrator fails to deliver. From repeating phrases multiple times, making you wonder if your audio is skipping, and butchering some of the language used. It astonishes me that someone would opt to narrate a book based in the Adirondacks and not even bother to learn how to say Adirondack. There are several other versions of this available on Audible. I'd recommend giving one of them a try over this one.

A decent glimpse into the past
