Making the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible — The task of translating the Bible into English was undertaken by a group of scholars approved by King James the First. All were members of the Church of England and most were clergy. The scholars worked in six committees, two based in each of the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, and Westminster. The committees included high churchmen, as well as scholars with Puritan sympathies.
