  • Brattons Idea by Manly Wade Wellman ~ Full Audiobook
    Jun 30 2025
Brattons Idea by Manly Wade Wellman audiobook. Imagine stepping into a world where old New England manors hide secrets darker than moonless nights and a single spark of daring can ignite centuries-old terrors—“Bratton’s Idea” by Manly Wade Wellman invites you to follow urbane occult detective John Thunstone from the comfort of your armchair into the shadow-haunted halls of Ravenwood Hall, where an ancient family legend has awakened forces that rig the very air with dread. As Thunstone deciphers cryptic journals, tests silver-tipped bullets against phantoms that leer from cobwebbed corners, and summons courage to face the unnameable, you’ll feel every whisper of wind down the corridor, every creak of the floorboards, and every pulse-pounding heartbeat as though you were right beside him. The audiobook’s narrator wraps Wellman’s prose in a velvet-toned narration that makes the portraits on the walls seem to flicker to life, the candlelight tremble, and the ancestral curse grow louder with each deliberate breath. Whether you’re a seasoned fan of supernatural suspense or new to Wellman’s masterful blend of folklore, wit, and cold-blooded suspense, pressing play on this audiobook is like unlocking a door you can never quite close—and you’ll relish every spine-tingling, breath-catching moment. • Baled Hay - A Drier Book than Walt Whitmans Leaves o Grass by Bill Nye ~ Full Audiobook
    Jun 28 2025
Baled Hay - A Drier Book than Walt Whitmans Leaves o Grass by Bill Nye audiobook. Imagine settling into your favorite chair, the world hushed around you, as Bill Nye’s delightfully arid wit trickles into your ears in Baled Hay—A Drier Book than Walt Whitman’s Leaves o’ Grass. In this uproarious audiobook you’ll traverse a midwestern landscape of puns, paradoxes, and plainspoken reflections that are as crisp and crackling as sun-baked hay bales under a July sun. With every perfectly timed pause, the narrator’s deadpan delivery transforms painstakingly unpoetic scenes—like mud-caked barn floors and leaky well buckets—into sidesplitting odes of everyday absurdity. Nye’s anecdotes brim with homespun philosophy: from the existential crisis of a lost shovel to the surprising romance of a squeaky windmill blade—and you’ll find yourself laughing aloud at the uncanny precision of his punch lines. Whether you’re tackling a long drive or just craving a pick-me-up, the audiobook’s cadence ensures you feel every quiver of sardonic humor, every artful groan at life’s little inconveniences. By the time the final pun-of-all-puns rattles out, you’ll have inhaled each syllable of dry hilarity, walked a mile in Nye’s wry shoes, and realized no pastoral epic has ever been so deliciously parched. Make room on your playlist—this is Americana spun into verbal hay, ready to ignite your grin with pure, uncut levity. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

I've now listened to several of these 800+ (and growing) episodes/books, and sampled many more. They are read well, for the most part, and cover a broad range of topics, authors and time periods. There are both fiction and non-fiction, children's, YA and adult titles. I assume all are in the public domain, whether by lapsed or expired copyright. A number of the series' titles are otherwise unavailable for free through Audible, but the edition for sale on Audible will likely be a better reading or translation. I haven't checked, but some of the more obsure titles are likely not available at all. Some have attributions to Librivox, but a variety of sources seem to be drawn from. The biggest drawback, due to the podcast/episode structure of the collection, is that you can't search by title or author, only by upload date. You must load page after page until you find (or don't find) a title or author you're hoping is in the collection. But what do you want for FREE? There are both diamonds and lumps of coal in this mine. You just have to keep digging until you find your diamonds.
