  • Black Men Matter Series: Revisiting Eta Nu Nu - Exploring the Impact of One of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.'s Newer Chapters
    May 21 2025

In this episode of "The Male Perspective," Lana Reid returns to Eta Nu Nu, one of the newer chapters of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., based in Columbus, OH, to check in after over a year! Joining her are the chapter's current Basileus, Bro. Matthew Coleman, along with Bro. Dr. Judson Jeffries and Bro. Leon Peacock.

The chapter has made a significant impact in the community, highlighted by an impressive rise in scholarships from $500 to an incredible $515,625.11. Their "Man P.L.E.A.S.E., Check Yourself" event has been pivotal in raising awareness about prostate cancer and their newly formed Omega Book Club delves into scholarship, fraternity history, and vital issues facing the Black community. In 2025, they also distributed over 2,500 STEAM books to Columbus Public Schools students and offered invaluable mentorship through their Chess for Success program. This is just a glimpse of the extensive community outreach efforts by Eta Nu Nu, which have earned the chapter numerous awards in under five years.

“Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is the first international fraternal organization founded on the campus of a historically black college.

On the evening of November 17, 1911, Omega Psi Phi was founded inside the Science Building (later renamed Thirkield Hall) at Howard University located in Washington, D.C. The founders were three undergraduates — Edgar Amos Love, Oscar James Cooper and Frank Coleman. Joining them was their faculty adviser, Ernest Everett Just.

From the initials of the Greek phrase meaning, “friendship is essential to the soul“, the name Omega Psi Phi was derived. That phrase was selected as the motto.

Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance and Uplift were adopted as Cardinal Principles.” (https://oppf.org)
