Dark Downeast: Maine and New England's True Crime Podcast digs into the decades-old and modern day cases that prickle the history of Vacationland and beyond – the unsolved homicides, undetermined deaths, unexplained disappearances and other dark stories of New England. Investigative journalist and storyteller Kylie Low gets straight to the story with a mix of narrated episodes and documentary style production featuring interviews with surviving family and friends and insight on the investigations from detectives and sources who know these cases best. This is heart-centered, ethical true crime, bringing light to stories you’re not hearing on other podcasts. It is Dark Downeast's mission to honor the legacy of the humans at the heart of each story and bring new attention to the cases still awaiting justice.audiochuck Ciencias Sociales Crímenes Reales

  • The Murders of Karen Clarke & Leroy "B.J." Brown Jr. (Connecticut)
    May 15 2025

The mother and son had just gotten home from a trip to the store and had no sooner brought their bags into their Bridgeport, Connecticut home when they heard the doorbell ring. As Karen Clarke turned the doorknob to see who was on the other side, she and her son, B.J. Brown Jr., were ambushed and gunned down in their own home.

This case has eyewitnesses, it has clear and critical evidence, it has a strong motive, and I’m here to tell you that it has an ending… But I wouldn’t say it has justice in its entirety. The rug was pulled out from under the feet of Karen and B.J.’s family earlier this year when they learned one of the perpetrators would see the outside of prison walls long before they ever thought possible.

  • ANNOUNCING: Dark Valley
    May 12 2025

Jane Boroski was seven months pregnant when she was stabbed 27 times by an unknown man. Miraculously, she survived. But Jane later finds out she is the only survivor of a serial killer who prowled the Connecticut River Valley in the 1980s and killed at least 8 women before her. Now, she's here to speak for the dead.

Dark Valley is an investigation into the Connecticut River Valley Killer (CRVK) and the 8 women who were brutally murdered. CRVK prowled the borderland of Vermont and New Hampshire in the 1980s. These cases remain unsolved to this day. Produced and hosted by Jennifer Amell.

Narratively driven, Dark Valley centralizes the story of Jane Boroksi, considered to be the lone survivor of the Valley Killer as she and Jennifer investigate the cold cases of Catherine Millican, Elizabeth Betsy Critchley, Heidi Martin, Bernice Courtemanche, Ellen Fried, Eva Morse, Lynda Moore, and Barbara Agnew. Jane Boroski recounts her harrowing attack in 1988, when a stranger savagely stabbed her 27 times while she was pregnant. The investigation unfolds in real-time as Jennifer works to highlight the victims' voices and uncover new leads and suspects by talking with law enforcement, criminal profiler Dr. John Philpin, victims' families, and locals.

I have been devouring this podcast since I heard about it from listening to Park Predators. The way she tells the story and paints a picture of their lives is great. You can tell she cares. It has hooked me.

Very well told stories

I really enjoy Kylie and the stories she tells. I love that some are unsolved and some have a resolution. It’s so nice to actually have some resolution with some of the cases she shares.
Kylie has a knack for storytelling and I’m loving this show as a whole.

Great stories and storyteller

Normally, I like - no, make that, love - your podcasts. I am well on my way to listening to every single episode available (not in any particular order). I've given you tons of five stars but this episode (Elizabeth Jewett murder) was a real disappointment. I actually stopped listening part way through because this episode was drowning in your obvious political leanings. I get it, you are opposed to, as you put it, the "criminalization of sex work." I happen to disagree but that is really neither here nor there. We are each entitled to our opinions. but I - along with, I wager, 99.9% of your audience- listen to be entertained not proselytized. Just a little food for thought from a diehard fan.

great most of the time but...

The cases are presented with respect and very little extrernal opinion interjection. You feel connected to the cases by the narration. Well worth the listen or binge
