  • 18. Egypt - Fall of the Pharaohs
    Feb 1 2024
Far in the distance, three colossal shapes tower over the desert horizon… In this episode, we travel to the Nile Valley, and tell the story of one of the most iconic cultures ever produced by humankind – the civilizations of ancient Egypt. I want to show how this series of related cultures grew up in the floodplains of their great river, and built some of the most enduring and recognizable structures in the world. And I want to tell the story of what happened to bring the age of the Pharaohs finally and cataclysmically to an end. The narrative is beautifully told, it is compelling and evocative. Searching for the common threads in all great civilizations is incredibly introspective to each person as human beings! There is something interesting and familiar with every one.

This podcast is one of those nearest and dearest to my heart. It is so well researched and performed that it really counts more like a book than a podcast. Absolutely amazing place to start.

I say this with my highest regard: FoC is the best background podcast, and I religiously listen to these multiple times over. Driving, cleaning, napping, you name it. Have followed on YouTube for some time and just found the Audible. Keep it up!!

Melancholy and beautiful, and always interesting. A must-listen. I am a fan of historical podcasts, and this is one of the best I've listened to. I always listen to every episode as it comes out. The haunting stories of ancient civilizations and those who lived in them are brought alive, and the tragedy of their downfall is made real.

It is like listening to the ghosts of the past.

Paul M.M. Anderson and team have put together fascinating and entraining content that is obviously meticulously researched. It is truly a lesson in these former cultures that no doubt influences the modern cultures that ultimately came from them. Helps with the big world picture. Keep ‘em coming.

Simply the Best Effort

I love this guys take. Brings the history to a highly relatable way for someone who learns like me. I like how he matches history from one civilization to the place in history another is at as well.

Great!!!

An enjoyable voice, wonderful ambiance music and tasteful sound effects are only the visceral pleasures that help paint the picture of topics discussed.

In the first episode I listened to on Byzantium, the narrator frames the program by presenting Goethe's perspective before diving back millions of years to discuss the geological formation of the Mediterranean.

Absolutely astounding.

Wow, That's Excellent Quality!
